Well, I’ve given this 4 stars as it’s clearly well-written, but out of my collection of over 100 Ladybird books, this is the first I’ve barely understood a word of! 😁 My brother worked for some time in the 1970s as a computer programmer, but he also excelled at chess and bridge. Nuff said! My brain is wired for art, music and poetry, not science, but I praise those who can do the latter! I have both the 1971 and updated 1979 editions. The illustrations are reminiscent of the Turin traffic compute Well, I’ve given this 4 stars as it’s clearly well-written, but out of my collection of over 100 Ladybird books, this is the first I’ve barely understood a word of! 😁 My brother worked for some time in the 1970s as a computer programmer, but he also excelled at chess and bridge. The illustrations are reminiscent of the Turin traffic computers in the original version of The Italian Job, and of the scene in Diamonds are Forever where Jill St John stuffs a cassette down her bikini! Obviously very outdated now, but apparently in its day this book was printed in a plain cover for students on university courses! Each version ends with the words “The future will see much more compact machines doing an even greater variety of intricate jobs.” Quite! Quod erat demonstrandum! 😄
