This book is super quirky, and I like quirky books. It’s basically some of Scroobius Pip’s lyrics except each song is illustrated by a different artist. The result is a sort of hybrid graphic novel/poem with a range of different styles, which makes it a great book to dip in and out of or to have as a coffee table book. Maybe not for you if you’re not a Pip fan, but worth thinking about!

A really different book so-sandwiched between my usual fantastical reading material, but very much enjoyed. An introduction preceded each poem, providing insight into the motivations Mr. Pip harboured for the writing of each, which shed particular light onto those familiar song lyrics... The illustrations are varied and of high quality; contributions from a selection of freelance artists, which give life to the poet's words. All in all, a great little book and a wonderful premise. Scroobius Pip in an intriguing poet/rapper who has triggered one or two of many the times I have revisited writing poetry after life's business caused me to take a hiatus. This book should include more poems than it does, but is an interesting way of "crowd-sourcing" a publication. The art for each poem is in a drastically different style from the rest which I think is a strong choice. The introductions for the poems provide wonderful insight into the creative process Pip uses. I really like Pip's writing buy I do think it is something more suited to spoken word and not paper. Some of the art really doesn't work for me in the book either which unfortunately detracts from some lovely pieces. It's an interesting attempt/take on things but for me it doesn't add anything to the greatness of Pip. Excellent poetry with insightful commentary, as you'd expected. The artwork was selected for its variety of styles and unfortunately the quality is a bit variable as well, although never less than good, some of the more outstanding art highlights the shortcomings in the other pieces.
