After the death of her abusive mother, young Gandry Queen Tirra must return to her old tribe to save the lives of her mother's mates, who are dying without her. She and her sisters, Senri and Barqa, attempt the impossible: Bonding males who are already Bonded to another. It's the only way to save them, though it's not what the sisters wanted for themselves. As the oldest sister, Tirra takes the oldest males, including Coron, a stern and severe white-furred male. When she was a child, she disliked Coron and loved to pester and torment him. Now, she needs him to teach her how to mate, before time runs out. Together, they discover a power dynamic that works for them, even though it is the opposite of the relationship a Queen should have with her Bonded male. This is a 28,000-word novella that features an alien/alien couple that love only each other, though Tirra has a second Bonded male she doesn't have a romantic relationship with. Coron was previously mated to Tirra's mother, but there is no blood relation, though he treats her like a Daddy should treat his Princess. This novella follows on from Krol's Goddess, Book 5 in the main Gandry/Ruth & Gron series. Ruth's tribe will not feature, only Mirr's tribe, but it would be better to read them together, not as a stand-alone.

Hmmm. So, ok, we’re back to the Gandry planet. I have really enjoyed the way she wrote the previous books - Ruth’s Bonded and the rest. This one ... was a little different for me. In this world, the females are very dominant, yet VC made the power dynamic between the two main characters a little different. The thing is - I am NOT A FAN of exes. Brother’s ex, sister’s ex, and in this case, essentially step father. I think it would have been better if she hadn’t given us instances when he (Coron) Hmmm. So, ok, we’re back to the Gandry planet. It felt even a little taboo to the honest. Like - wanna know a fast way to kill the afterglow? Ask about his sex life with your mom, that will do it. There’s also the question of said mom. Where did she go? Why? What happened to her? I mean she was evil, but still. I did like the end. I like how their relationship evolved and what they had together. So not a bad, quick addition to the series, that basically has nothing to do with it , but by far my least favorite and the worst be with the most ick.

Knowing that the dozen males dying is just another Mirr massacre, she can't leave them to die. She and the other 2 eldest sisters decide to divide the males between them and bond them to keep them alive. Queens have to be able to defend territory. She can't raise all the kids, take care of the older males and patrol, even with 2 other queens- queens who will eventually come to blows because that's just what queens do. So she takes the oldest 3, the middle sister takes the next age group and the youngest the 3 youngest males. It isn't the tribe she always wanted but at least the family will live, right? Spoilers ahead. This was poignant. We've seen things from the human POV, and the males who bonded them. But this is a strictly Gandry POV story. Mirr, the monster Alpha from Krol's Goddess, is gone. Her tribe is dying as bonded males pass without their queen. Most are too young to take care of themselves, all her daughters, and the males are trying to take care of themselves and the kids on a mountain barren of food. Tirra takes Coron, her old tormentor, Mrak, Barqa's dad, and Erin, an older male who is in really bad shape. She knows the basics of bonding, but has never done it before. And has no idea if she can even bond previously bonded males to her. She wanted love, she gets a rescue tribe of older males. One passes, another is bonded, but only one becomes her mate. She finds that her rescue mate is more than he seems and while she is queen, she can share responsibility and not be a tyrant. Tirra and Coron have a lot of healing to do, things are definitely awkward at first, and a lot of it is glossed over. We know from previous books just what occurred in the tribe so it didn't have to be rehashed. I'm not sure if the other sisters will get their own stories. It would be a nice series filler till the hybrid babies grow up. Maybe Krol's nephew will get to meet his siblings and cousins? There's still a lot of potential growth in this series, avenues to explore, a species to see recover.

Short and sweet. It's a short add-on to the authors off-world alien universe, with different characters. If you like her other works, this one will not disappoint. A good read, and well worth the money. Short and sweet. It's a short add-on to the authors off-world alien universe, with different characters.
