She is one of the few female dragon shifters. Female dragon shifters are very rare and also sterile. That means that they are fairly useless to other dragons, since dragons generally have fated mates which can prolong their lives from about 1000 years to 2000 years. Her kind can’t have a fated mate and is only used for making alliances between the king and another party. The Hero: Levi - a gold dragon and he was sent to America to be an Enforcer for the Huracáns in the pacific northwest. Levi’s dragon has wanted Lyndi since she first came to his team but he messes things up when he meets her and she has had animosity towards him ever since. The Love Story: Levi and all gold dragons are called by the gold king to their stronghold in Scandinavia to fight in the war. He and Lyndi finally show each other how much they are attracted to each other and due to the fact that he will soon be leaving, Lyndi agrees to be with Levi. Lyndi is a great heroine and she is so strong and doesn’t ever dwell on her lot in life. When she realizes how she feels about Levi she only thinks of him and what mating her would mean for him, like a shorter life and a life without children of his own. She also works as an enforcer for the Huracáns and started an orphanage in her home for orphaned dragons who are usually shunned because their parents have either died or cast them out. These dragons usually end up feral and are killed because they risk outing the dragon shifters to humans. The orphans make up part of the supporting cast as well as some of the other Huracáns and their mates. There are also some other characters which are fantastic. It’s funny how so many shifter books differ in how things work, yet have so much in common. For example, some are just one mind, they are just human sometimes and animals when they shift. Others are where they are like two beings sharing the same body, the human can feel the animal inside them, the animal may make its needs known, like recognizing a mate, and can growl at times or push the human to do things. In these cases there are even differences where sometimes when they shift, the animal is in complete control and it is like the human can see what is happening but can’t do anything about it. Other times, like in these books, even when they are in animal form, the human is still the one in control of the mind. Anyway, there are also differences in the mating in different shifter books. They all seem to have true or fated mates, but in some books, once they find their mate, they have to bite each other and that starts the bonding process. Also in some shifter books the shifter can mate humans but the human doesn’t become a shifter, while in others like this series, the mate becomes a shifter if they survive the mating. In these stories they also have a mating counsel and it seems that the counsel has to approve of the mates even if they are fated mates. That is one of the things that is a bit unclear in this book since I haven’t read the previous books in this series. It refers to some mates from previous books and they are on the run but doesn’t really explain exactly why. I got the impression they mated without authorization from the council. Either that or someone else got authorization to mate the female and the fated mates got together despite the other guy. Either way, the fact that I did not completely understand the references to the previous books had no bearing on my enjoyment of this book. I will hopefully eventually read those previous books anyway and then I will understand it all. The world building was terrific in these books, I could picture the caves and cabins and the character development was pretty great as well. I loved the history between Levi and Lyndi and the romance was quite steamy, but the story was definitely the best part of the book. So much dragon action and dragons are just so fricken cool! I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own. Blog|Goodreads|Facebook|Instagram|Twitter|BookBub

But neither wants to admit the depth of their longing. Beyond just these two principles, are dragon wars between colors and political groups and some gruesome fighting battles. Protect the family. Protect the colonies. Fight for the freedom against a political agenda. Angst and denial. My angst because they just needed to talk to each other! 200+ of wasted years. But I guess there wouldn’t be a story otherwise. My denial that compelled me to keep reading a premise I can’t stand. The not talking and politics! Dragon politics though so nothing you’ll hear about beyond this world. A little too much blood and gizzards in the fighting for me. It is a romance so you know ...love and lots of lustiness. Captivating and thrilling and a bit sentimental. The epilogue makes is a cliffhanger so don’t read that if that’s an issue. I received a copy of this from NetGalley. I can’t wait to continue to the next in the series.

ARC received for review Lyndi and Levi have been fighting and fussing at each other for centuries. Underneath all the fighting has been a slow burn of attraction for both of them. Only when they think Levi has to leave, do they finally give in to that burn and realized they love each other. Levi delays and delays to help Lyndi and her orphans and the rest of the Huracan team. Loved Vislinn, he's a keeper. Levi has a lot of balls to talk to the new gold King, but in the end true love conquers all. I had to re-read this series before diving into The Protector. I've been soooo curious about Lyndi's and Levi's story. There was so much working against them, but I wanted their happily ever after more than anything. And it brought up a lot of questions of if it would be possible for them to be together. When it comes to most romance I've read, it tends to be the hero that makes rash decisions for their counterpart, but it was rather surprising to see it from the heroine. I don't know why that stood out to me, but it just did. The politics of mates is what has irked me the most with this series and I'm sure I'm not alone in that. I'm beyond for that to end and as we get through each book in the series, we're getting closer to a resolution of all the corruption. I loved getting to know Lyndi and Levi more, as well as seeing all of my favorites through the series. These two have had a strong connection for a decade, but never choosing to act on it. Levi would do absolutely anything for Lyndi and my goodness, she held back for so long.. With everything they faced along the way, I was completely satisfied with their story. I definitely need to see more of them in the next book, which I'm rather eager to get to. Love this series by Abigail!

Stayed up all night reading this baby and the fuzzy mind and dark circle under my eyes was worth! In Abigail Owen's dragon shifter world, female dragons are rare and sterile. So our heroine, Lyndi is a female dragon. She thought she'd accepted never mating until she meets Levi, a gold dragon that sets her every nerve on fire. Except that a misunderstanding (and a case of always saying/doing the wrong thing) has Lyndie thinking Levi's rejected her out of hand and starts them both down a long miserable and lonely co-habitation situation :) Fast forward years later and these two have perfected the haters to lovers vibe pat. They both love to rag on the other while desperately hiding their true feelings for each other. They finally admit to their explosive attraction for each other when the perfect storm of everything that could go wrong does and Levi and Lyndi have to battle not only their mutual enemy but also their own doubts and fears. The angst was off the charts and I was seriously, emotionally invested in these characters. Every time Lyndi’s vulnerability and fears surfaced my heart squeezed and my eyes got teary. But these were also the moments where Levi shined brightest. This golden boy had a heart as big as Lyndi’s and twice the stubborn determination to claim his one and only *swoon* I fell for both Levi and Lyndi, they are another strong couple to root for. Seriously this was a great read -this coming from a new reader to this series. I can honestly say, it can be read as a standalone. I did have two issues that kept me from giving a full 5 star ratings (view spoiler)[ In my bookish world I want good to triumph over evil and the good guys always win. Period. So killing a sweet boy like Elijah!!! Like. Why?!?! His ending was so out of the blue and honestly, didn’t change the outcome of the story. I was bummed! Not to mention, I cried! And lastly, I was a bit disappointed that even after meeting, neither MC stayed celibate. I’m a stickler when it comes to this but either I’m mellowing out or the author did a good job of convincing me these two were meant to be and anyone before meant zilch. Didn’t love that kernel of info but it also didn't completely ruin this for me. (hide spoiler)] Overall, I love this author’s dragon shifters and can’t wait to read Warrior King!!!! Now that we know the truth behind female dragons, I can't wait to find out how Arden and Reid finally deal with their own obstacles and finally get together. I hope it's epic and just as romantic as this one was! PS that freaking adorable ending?!? Yes, please!!! And THANK YOU!

(ARC provided by NetGalley. Opinions are my own.) I started with and have enjoyed this author's Inferno Rising series, which is a spin off series from the Fire's Edge series. Let me start by staying that although it would be helpful to have read previous books in Fire's Edge series, it is not necessary to enjoy this book. I do find myself wanting to know more about other characters and some of the background, so I still intend to go back and start from the beginning. But this book had great characters and great plot and stands just fine on its own. Sometimes with a book, I love the hero or the heroine. With this book, I loved them both. Levi was the protective mate and he filled that role perfectly without being overbearing and annoying. Lyndi was a strong female but felt like people judged her as less because she was a rare female born dragon and would never be a dragon male's true fated mate, and she couldn't have children. Levi and Lyndi have been at odds for about 200 years of avoiding their feelings, though their inner dragons have known all along they were meant to be together. This story was well paced with an engaging plot. The main couple was the focus but other events were also important and interesting, and the character interactions really made you feel like this team of dragons was a family. I found myself terribly sad at one point, because I felt so connected to the characters in this book. The bad guy was well thought out, and the reader is given several scenes from his POV to see his motivations, and as one of the characters pointed out, he had reasons for his actions, so it was not just a cookie cutter one size fits all bad guy. (Although he was quite the jerk.) So now I definitely have to go back and read the previous books while I await Abigail Owen's next release, which I sincerely hope will be sooner rather than later. These books leave you wanting for more.

Lyndi is a female dragon shifter and females are sterile so her mating would usually be political because she is a cousin of the High King. But the High King is a nice guy and hasn't made her mate anyone. As soon as Lyndi meets Levi though, she feels something for him right away but she misinterprets how he acts around her at first and pushes him away every chance she gets for 200 years. As soon as Lyndi meets Levi though, she feels something for him right away but she misinterprets how he acts around her at first and pushes him away every chance she gets for 200 years. Levi meets Lyndi when she and her brother comes to help his clan. He knows pretty much right away that she is his mate but because of the way he acts towards her, she thinks he doesn't like her when he's really just trying to hold his dragon in check. Neither one has any idea that the other feels the same way about them and Lyndi being sterile and not being able to mate him the way a human female would makes her believe that she's not good enough for him anyway. It isn't until he gets called back to his clan and a male dragon shifter from another clan comes to claim Lyndi, that they both let their feelings show. At that point there was no way that they were letting each other go, but that's also when all sorts of things get in their way and it looks like there will be a war or at the very least a lot of trouble with other clans and maybe even Levi's gold clan leader. I really liked the orphan dragon shifters that Lyndi has taken in and cares for and how much they care about her. There were a few surprises and a lot of great action scenes. So much has happened in this series and even more happens in this book. I cannot wait for Rune's book and it looks like his will be the next book in this series and I'm so looking forward to it. I always enjoy the books in this series and that's what keeps me coming back. All I can say is if you haven't started reading this and you like PNR, you really need to pick up the first book and start reading it. Disclosure: I was given an e-ARC via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Abigail Owen's covers are just awesome! As soon as I open up Netgalley, my heart just skips a beat when I see one of Abigail's series on the page. Oh yeah. I do believe that the Brimstone Inc. is my favorite series (The Demigod complex, Shift Out of Luck, Bait 'N Witch and Try As I Smite), but I do appreciate the Inferno Rising series (The Rogue King, The Blood King and awaiting The Warrior King) and the spin-off Fire's Edge series. The Fire's Edge and Inferno Rising series have a lot more politics going on then the Brimstone Inc. series. And although you can read the stories as a standalone it is better to understand the underlying relations and tensions between the different clans and species. In The Protector we meet Lyndi, the sister of Drake Chandali (yes, you can read his story in The Enforcer). She is the cousin of the High King and therefore a pawn in the political field. Because this feisty female dragon doesn't want to be used as a bargaining chip, she has chosen to live with her brother in his clan, away from court. Realizing she can't be a mate like the other females, she hides her feelings from the clan's Beta, Levi Rowtag. Being a female dragon also means being sterile and therefore Lyndi has resigned herself to being the adoptive mother to stray dragons and giving them a home. Levi's dragon has recognized Lyndi for his mate years ago. But Lyndi doesn't want to be involved with any dragon, and especially not Levi. So he kept his distance. But when the wars between the clans are intensifying and Lyndi's future and that of 'her' orphans is in danger, Levi realizes he needs to step up and protect them. Even when it means defying his own High King Brand Asterot (yep, the one from The Rogue King). What's not to love? Feisty dragon's, romance, suspense and family ties. Absolute great read! Five out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

A quick, easy, sexy read. We are already familiar with Levi and Lyndi from the previous books. So this book dives right in without much preamble or introduction, the other books in the series you might have been able to read without reading the others but this one you simply must. Because unlike with the previous men and their mates we don't get to see them build this relationship from the ground up. They have a rapport with each other already, they have 200 years of history between them, nothing is coming out of nowhere, and yet sometimes because we did not get to see those parts of the relationship it does feel underdeveloped at certain points. Still, it was a fun, enjoyable read and I knew going in we'd get a happy ending so overall I'm happy enough with it. I can’t wait for the next one. Because we finally get to see more of Rune!

When he first met and recognised Lyndi Chandali as his mate over two centuries earlier he never acted on it as he believes she'd never accept him as her mate as she's a born dragon and cousin of the High King. Female born dragons are sterile and are usually given to powerful dragons in political moves . . . . but she's feisty enough to have joined this team of enforcers when her brother was appointed there. For two centuries they've verbally sparred but he's always protected her - usually when she didn't want it - and supported her, especially in her endeavours to provide a home for orphaned dragon shifter children.  Someone is scheming to take down the enforcers, discrediting them, spreading unwarranted rumours and creating distrust between the different groups but who is doing it - and what is their aim? As the strife between the clans intensifies, Levi is ordered to return to his clan . . . . can she let him go without making him aware of her feelings and can he go without making her aware of his? However, other powerful enemies are now threatening both Lyndi and her orphans. What will they decide to do - and will they succeed? This is a drama filled paranormal story, packed with love, fighting and danger. The political intrigue is definitely heating up, placing them all in precarious positions. *I received this book as a gift in exchange for my honest opinion. What can I say about a book that literally embodies everything I love in a PNR? The only thing that comes to mind is, "OMG!" and "I want MORE!". No really. I. Want. MORE!!!! Ms. Owen has had me salivating over her books ever since I picked up her first dragon shifter novel, and she's still keeping me begging for more. The way she brings these shifter worlds alive, intertwining previous series with the current, has me fantasizing, dreaming that "I" lived within it. I truly wish I was a dragon....or maybe even one of the human mates. It really doesn't matter. I just want "in". LOL Ok, enough about me.... Levi is the beta enforcer for the Hurricans. He's always been the protector of not only his family, but the humans they vowed to look after. But he's been keeping a secret. A secret that he's held in for 200 years. You heard me. 200 years!!!!!! It finally time to confess, but his timing couldn't be worse. Now, he needs to set things in motion, before it's too late. Lyndi is a female-born dragon. Ever since she followed her brother and became a "family member" to the Hurricans, she had to prove her worth. What better way than helping all of the orphan shifters, right? Sounds like she's done a pretty good job over the years. Now if she can just prove to herself that she doesn't have feelings for a certain gold dragon... Nothing like a life changing event to kick start the heart, right? That's exactly what these two are faced with, yet pull together to weather the storm. Just like the other books in this series, there will be twists and turns and lots of feel good moments. Every time I pick up one of these books, I fall deeper in love with these characters....don't make it stop!!!

Voluntarily reviewing - received ARC copy via NetGalley I. Loved. This. Book! I didn’t not expect this, there was so MUCH that happened and I was left in shock every single time. I didn’t not expect this, there was so MUCH that happened and I was left in shock every single time. I have enjoyed this series previously, but none as much as The Protector and that really has left me in a state of shocked joy. I think this book was a pivotal point in both the Fire’s Edge and Inferno Rising series. There is crazy stuff happening amongst the dragon shifters, the phoenixes aren’t the only ones changing fates in their world. I can’t believe how much I enjoyed Lyndi. I did not expect to like her to such an extent, joke’s on me, I couldn’t have liked her more. She is a female-born red dragon, enforcer, and foster mother to the best group of young orphaned dragon shifter boys. My heart is literally aching sitting here thinking about the boys, Marin has my heart, ALL of it. Lyndi is selfless, strong willed, and a badass in general. The amount of things she faces all the way throughout the book is unbelievable. I felt exhausted for her by the end. Levi, is simply the best. The way he bonds with the boys through the series was really one of my favorite parts of the entire story. I won’t get too deep into spoiler territory but his love for them is evident in every single move he makes. I love Levi and Lyndi so much, I have to admit it drove me crazy that their first meet went the way it did but BOY was it ever worth it in the end! Their chemistry is CRAZY, and they both take self-control to a different level. I don’t even want to talk about him, but Tineen is THE WORST. I applaud Abigail on writing him because he genuinely got under my skin! I found myself caring about all of the extended characters, and that to me is the tell of a great book. All the characters are so well developed and represented. It makes reading the book such a seamless, enjoyable experience. This book was really a treat. As always, I am left grateful that Abigail continues to share these stories with us. They are a world that I love to get lost in.

Levi and Lyndi, the Huracan Enforcer's most awaited story, is told in Protector. And with those two, anything is possible. Anything. But they aren't the ones causing all the trouble in this book. No, Tineen and his Alaz Enforcers are determined to take what they want and destroy the rest. In one of the most turbulent of her Fire's Edge stories yet, we get to watch Lyndi in action, see some of her boys (the dragon orphans she has taken in and been raising) growing up enough to take their place among the enforcers and watch Levi struggle as he’s caught between his love for Lyndi, which has spanned a couple of centuries, and his duty to his king. Abigail takes you through some of the rawest emotions you can experience in a book. With love so strong you feel it in your own heart, hate so savage you feel your own muscles cramping with the need to inflict pain, protectiveness over the boys as if they were your own children, and friendship so deep you can feel the loyalty and complete comradery in every action, every reaction that is experienced by all. I won't tell you the story. I won't give away any spoilers. What I will say is be prepared to be wrung out of every emotion you can possibly feel and hung out to dry. So much happens in this series, and particularly in this book. This to me is the perfect marriage between PNR and UF. More and more we are seeing this, where PNR authors are incorporating actual sustainable storylines, and Abigail is right up there at the top of this new group. Exceptionally Well Done, Abigail Owen! Exceptionally Well Done Indeed! I received this as an Advanced Readers Copy in exchange for an honest review. This review is in my own words and of my own volition.

A rare, female-born dragon like Lyndi can’t truly mate—not in the way it counts. Which is why she's kept her distance from a certain sinfully delicious Beta. Instead, she's built a life for herself giving orphaned dragons in the Americas a home. As Beta of his team of enforcers, Levi Rowtag is a fighter first, last, and always. His job is to protect—his team, the shifters in his territory, and the stubborn woman hell-bent on fighting with him at every turn. He knows from the moment they first meet what she’ll never accept—they are destined to be mated. But with the kings at war, the enemy is now coming for Lyndi. Worse, he’s coming for her orphans, too. He’ll have no choice but to defy his king and go rogue if he has any hope of protecting them all...and finally claiming his mate 𝗠𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 Will she accept his decision to choose her ... Having not read the previous books in the series, I do wonder if more of their hate-love relationship was displayed in those. As the prologue presents them on their first meeting, the following chapter is a jump in time of nearly two centuries. And their hate war is just like that, over. So may be the other books offered some insights of their special connection. Lyndi devoted her life to help and rescue orphaned dragons, those left behind by the dangers the simple fact they existe bring. They are like the children she will never have. Like she longs for Levy to be the mate she will also be deprived by her status of being a female dragon shifter. Levi is good at what he does, one of the best enforcer. He just lack a mate, but the one woman he knows is the one for him seems to avoid him at all cost. Until it is decided he must leave his team to go back assist his king. Then bim bam boum, they mend decades of enmity in blowing up some steam between the sheets. From then, begins a new kind of seduction, for Levy to persuade Lyndi, he will not sacrifice anything by choosing her over a potential fated mate he does not even know if she exists. And stubborn, she is. In all, it is a fun, action packed and entertaining read. I might even prefer this series to its sequel sister. 4 stars I was granted an advance copy by the publisher, here is my true and unbiased opinion. https://www.facebook.com/429830134272...

I was interested in Lyndi's story after knowing her from the other books. Lyndi and Levi are both stubborn and fiercely protective of Lyndi's boys. Enjoyed reading the parts with the orphan boys in them and meeting a new, although unexpected, character. Story was steady paced and had some action to it. Need to see where the story takes everyone in the next book. I was interested in Lyndi's story after knowing her from the other books. I’ve read all the previous books (and loved them) so I’m happy that we are going back to see the guys in this series. It’s on the same time line as her other series (Inferno Rising Series) so we get a few crossovers (again I’m a happy bunny) We get going with a blast from the past, we get to see how the clans are formed and how this team comes together.... Dragons usually live in clans and mostly live with their own colour (we have six clans—gold, blue, white, red, black, and green, and only recently based in America, they’ve come from Europe and Asia originally) But under the new rule of their king Pytheios, the King of the Red Clan, and the defacto High King (took the throne to govern the rest of the clans) of all dragon shifters. He wants them to guard the New World) Levi and his team the Huracáns are to settle permanently in America. The Huracáns should consist of two members from each of the clans, twelve in all. But for some reason the King had never sent more.....it’s was just the five of them.... Levi, Finn, Rune, Titus, and Deep (their leader) and Calla, Deep’s mate. His team are enforcers (they uphold the laws of dragon kind) Rule number one among his kind was humans should never learn of dragon shifters’ existence! Levi meets the lovely Lyndi when her brother Drake (his book is the Enforcer) asks to join their team. Levi’s dragon has gone berserk, it wants Lyndi for its own!! Lyndi Chandali is never going to mate (female dragons can’t produce babies) so if and when she mates, it’s going to be more of an alliance rather than a love match! Well, she’s not having that, Lyndi would rather be single and alone than marry for the sake of an alliance! So she’s thrown all her love and affection into giving a home to orphaned dragons, she teaches them how to shift a d how to survive, the kids love her, and she loves them, she’s be content if it wasn’t for a certain gold coloured dragon. He makes her long for more, but if she can’t have young, what’s the point of a female dragon?! (Human women who have a mark on their body will turn into dragons and become mates, and they are either hunted and forced into a mating competition or if they are lucky, they will helped and guarded and treasured by their mate) You don’t need to read the previous books to enjoy this one, but if your going to read the series, then it is best to start at the beginning as there are a few things you need to be aware of. The alliance (the governing council) want the Huracán team disbanded, (they don’t answer to the council and they’ve stolen mates for other dragons!) so there are plans to set wheels in motion and disband them. And If a dragon doesn’t have a mate by a certain age, then an illness sets in (they slowly turn into stone) King Pytheios has that disease, but he’s not about to give up his throne (that’s where the spin off series “Inferno Rising” comes in) but it impacts this series too. The dragon clans are dividing and picking sides for an all out war! I loved this book, it was great catching up with the Huracán team. Really liked the prologue, as I’ve read the other books in this series and I was curious how the team came about. The banter between the team had me chuckling they work well as a team, but have become more like brothers over the years. Levi, the teams Beta has watched as team members have died, mated and turned rogue (see I told you it was a good series) but through it all his feelings for Lyndi have never changed.... The story then goes to the present day...... The war between dragon clans is escalating (dragon clans are warring with each other over mates and the tyrannical rule of King Pytheios) and the call for dragons to return to their clans has been issued. Levi knows he doesn’t have much time left before he has to return to the Gold King. Can he finally tell Lyndi how he feels about her? Lyndi has loved Levi from the moment she saw him, but he wouldn’t look at her as a potential mate for two reasons, one she can’t have young and two, she will be used as a pawn for a political marriage, so why should Levi look at her? But the team is splitting up and returning back to their Kings, and Lyndi is scared that not only will she lose her orphans, but she’ll be made to marry a dragon King of Pytheios‘s choosing. The action as usual is fast paced and frenzied. The storyline is very engrossing (I couldn’t put it down) and catching up with the team made me want to go reread their stories again (which I did) Levi and Lyndi’s story was just heartbreaking, you could see they were meant to be together, you could see they would be happy. But they’ve been kept apart by rules ..... female dragons are barren!! So, that didn’t mean she couldn’t be happy! Oh hell no! Ever since that first moment in the first book of this series, I have wanted her to get a story...... and here it is 😊 you’ve had glimpses of how they both feel about each other in previous books. So to finally have their story I had to cheer. Fighting their feelings for one another was getting harder and harder. But admitting those feelings (it was like squeezing blood out of a stone!) was even scarier! Levi has to get Lyndi to admit to her feels and to want to fight for their future. But fate may have a different path for them, she’s to be married off to another King! The only course of action for Levi is to leave his clan and King. To go rogue usually carries a death penalty! But Levi is willing to risk it. I must have ridden that rollercoaster through the whole of this book, the ups, the downs, and then throwing you for a loop! It was a wild ride, and I’m so glad I got to share this ride with them. So do they get a happy ending? Well.... no.... you need to go read this yourself. Highly recommended read. 🦋 I received this book for an honest review

Isn't the definition of insanity doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results? Well. Then. I was fortunate enough to be allowed to read an ARC of The Protector; my thanks to NetGalley, Entangled Amara, and Ms. Owen for the opportunity. An honest review was requested but not required, and these opinions are my own. I love a good dragon book, and Ms. Owen's dragon shapeshifter books are really, really, really good. The world building is on point, and the characters thus far have been very believable and fairly relatable, for, uh, dragon shapeshifters. The overarching plot line is really well done too; you never lose sight of the bigger picture - there are plenty of little hints, reminders, easter eggs etc) - even as you're totally invested in the growing relationship in front of you. I was especially interested in reading about Lyndi after having read about Ladon's sister in Blood King. The idea of female dragons being limited by their gender to loveless political marriages (since they can't mate and are infertile) is intriguing, and I was really interested by how Ms. Owen was going to get around that obstacle. Lyndi's resistance to a relationship with Levi was completely in character and understandable, considering the constraints on female dragons, but Levi's persistent attempts to convince her were just so charming. I personally think Ms. Owen resolved the situation amazingly. I think anything less would have felt somehow lazy or too convenient (view spoiler)[(I don't want to spoil how it happens, but obviously you know it's GOING to happen; this is a ROMANCE, not a tragedy) (hide spoiler)] . The orphans are charming; I'd actually love for them to appear in follow up books. I haven't said a lot about Levi, but he is just as charming and stalwart and HOT as you could hope. Lyndi deserves no less. And I'm super happy that the Fire's Edge and Inferno Rising series are finally starting to merge with greater momentum. It only makes sense, and frankly having them combine strengthens the worldbuilding even more. Now: can I either get Samael's story, or *pleasepleaseplease* Rune's, ASAP? Ms. Owen, do you need a beta reader? LMK. I will drop everything. Seriously. 24-hour turnaround guaranteed. ;)

So, I have been on a Dragon kick lately. Something about a big old fire beast falling for a mate....yep, I like it. Steam: 3 Stars Triggers: Not in my opinion ******* Levi has been in "like" with Lyndi since their very first meeting. Of course, that meeting didn't go well, and each had their feelings hurt for different reasons. 200 years later, they are still skating around each other. That is until Levi is called back to his Clan and he needs to report in one week. Suddenly, 200 years has blinked by and Lyndi and Levi don't know how to proceed but they both know they must do something because the chemistry is there. Like the chemistry is smoking hot! Lyndi is strong, smart, runs a home for orphaned dragons, beautiful, and sterile (apparently all naturally born female dragons are sterile). For 200 years, she has felt like less of a woman for that reason. She also feels like she's not worthy of Levi and will only get hurt when he finds his "fated" mate. Levi is the Beta dragon of the enforcer clan, and he is strong, dominant, and has a slow understanding of his feelings for Lyndi, though his dragon sure knows. Levi and Lyndi realized they only have a week to decide to essentially get each other out of their system. One night, no strings...what could go wrong? Yep, that whole getting someone out of your system always works (sarcasm lol). This book had likeable characters that drew me in and made me want to know more about them. A story that was steamy, suspenseful, and a page turner that kept me engaged. It was easy to read and I enjoyed the book enough to explore Ms. Owen's backlist. If you are looking for some hot dragon flames, with an interesting story...give this book a try! It's a recommend from me!

North America is still considered the colonies by the dragons. But things are changing - with changes to the structure and hierarchy as well as the basic makeup of dragons. In this world female born dragons are very rare - and are sterile. They are usually used as political pawns. Lyndi is one of those rare female born dragons. She has made a life in northern California with a group of enforcers. She's also made it her mission to find orphaned dragons and give them a home - when they would otherwise be killed and definitely be ostracized from their clans and communities. When she first arrived in California 200 years ago she and Levi were immediately drawn to each other - but they stayed apart for many reason - not the least of which being that Lyndi didn't think she could be anyone's mate. Levi knew from the minute he saw her that she was his mate - but didn't think Lyndi felt the same. Now circumstances have changed and they finally feel able to come together. But those same circumstances also threaten to pull them apart almost as soon as they've come together. This world is very well developed and fully formed - and the characters are all fun and really well written. I loved Lyndi and how big her heart was. Levi was also a total winner in the book boyfriend category. He is completely devoted to Lyndi and supports her through everything. I really liked seeing her as a mother to all the young men in her life. I am feeling pretty invested in this series already - so I can't wait to see where things go from here. Highly recommend for fans of Paranormal or Shifter romance. I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.

Because she knew she could never be a true mate, Lyndi never allowed her attraction to the beta enforcer Levi Rowtag ever come to light. They have known each other for centuries and have always circled around one another. Levi always felt the connection between them but due to multiple misunderstandings throughout the years the only feeling he felt from Lyndi was contempt. Even though he believed she hated him, he always felt the need to protect her. But circumstances have now changed, Levi had to make a decision between duty to his king and a chance to finally claim his mate. Like in the previous three books a lot happens in this book, almost too much, there were so many moments that had me at the edge of my seat. What I really loved about this book was the devotion Levi felt towards Lyndi and her orphans. When the two finally revealed how they felt towards each other, you could feel the connection between the two. I adored all of the orphaned dragons, they did provide some comic relief at times. And it was wonderful catching up with some of the characters in the previous books. All in all a wonderful read! And with the way this book ended, I am now anxiously awaiting for Rune’s story! We get to read the Prologue of when these two met, and understand a lot more about their background. This was such a great storyline, she wraps up each couple in a book, but there is an ongoing storyline of cutthroat politics. To put it mildly, the dragon world is basically going up in flames, loyalties tested and sides being chosen. So many things happen, so many whoa, what the moments. I love this series so much, and her other dragon series, Inferno Rising, too. They are both so addicting, that when I get through with one...I really want another one...nowish. See, patient I am not. An epilogue that really had me wanting the next book already and a long awaited and well deserved hea. Next book please...nowish would be great.

It has been a back in forth battle every since. As an alpha male dragon, he can't denies his feelings anymore and takes the leap with Lyndi. When Lyndi finds out she is to be mated to another for a political move an Levi has been called back by the Gold King, Levi and Lyndi, with her orphan kids, go on the run. The passion between Lyndi and Levi is hot. This was a fun, action packed, and outstanding read. I love how the series intertwines. As always with Abigails books is a one-click buy for me. Can't wait for the next book! All thoughts and opinions are my own. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

I was torn between wanting to make this one last, to savour every little bit and just wanting to greedily read it and find out what was going to happen. You may notice that with the date of starting and finishing being the same, which one of these two won. Unfortunately, when it comes to the Fire's Edge series and the associated Inferno Rising series, I just can't help myself. Not only are these gripping reads, but I was particularly looking forward to Lyndi's story. Unfortunately, when it comes to the Fire's Edge series and the associated Inferno Rising series, I just can't help myself. Not only are these gripping reads, but I was particularly looking forward to Lyndi's story. It's been obvious in previous books that she has some pretty serious heat and unresolved passion with Levi. Being a female born dragon, she isn't valued as a member of society. She is sterile and as such will never have a mate, the way that the male dragons dream of. Still, the connection and draw she feels towards Levi simply can't be ignored. They've spent the last two hundred years sniping at one another and trying not to get too close, but now, when it looks as though Levi might have to leave, they can resist one another no longer. I loved this story, it was all that I had hoped for and featured some things that I had hoped that it might. This is part of a series, I have read them all, but I'm still fairly confident to say that it would work as a standalone. That said, these books are so good, that I really think that you should go back and read them all if you haven't already. You won't regret it. I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Levi and Lyndi have know each other for a very long time. When they first meet it's not what it seems. Both shun each other. Lyndi is a female born dragon and will never have a soul mate or have children. She has decided to raise the orphan dragons and they are her life. Eventually Levi is called back to his King to fight in the war. When this happen both find they can not longer fight the chemistry between them. It was on fire LOL The problem is Lyndi knows that if she stays with Levi he will l Levi and Lyndi have know each other for a very long time. When they first meet it's not what it seems. I love the way the team of dragons work together and even and play together. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. These books are so full of action and you won't want to put it down once you pick it up. I received an advance reader copy and this is my honest review.
