This book is the story of Detective Connor Pierce and FBI agent Brie Ryan. Each of these books can be read as a standalone. In this story Brie is working undercover at a strip club, trying to find out what happened to her murdered sister. She and Connor are thrown together when her investigation goes bad. They must work together to crack a dangerous human trafficking case. Connor has troubling issues of his own after his partner was killed three years ago, but soon learns that the gutsy and outspoken FBI agent is someone he needs in his life permanently. This book easily kept my interest and I finished it in one day. It was a good story with likable characters. I thank NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read it. I gave it three and a half stars rounded up to four. #NetGalley #DontLookBack

But when FBI agent Brie Ryan crashes into his life she gives him no choice but to keep her close and help her with her investigation into her sisters murder. It may be weird to say considering this was a book involving human trafficking, murder, and shootings but this was actually a really fun book to read. The mystery kept me captivated and the characters had me smiling almost the entire time I was reading. I loved that Brie didn't let anyone push her around and she was so headstrong that she didn't even think twice before jumping into a dangerous situation no matter who told her she shouldn't. I admired her a lot for how determined she was and it made her character very likable in my opinion. I also loved seeing her with Connor and how she pushed him to work through his past. Their relationship was cute and it added the perfect amount of sweetness to the suspense. Overall, I definitely recommend reading this book and I think it can be read as a standalone with no issue. So one of the things I use to determine if a book is a 5-star read is how well it holds my attention and when it came to Don’t Look Back, I couldn’t put it down. In fact, halfway through I declared it was going to be a get your own dinner night, to the grumbles of my family, as nothing else was getting done until I finished it. I literally devoured it in one sitting over one afternoon and just kept asking myself several things. Why have I not read this author or series before? Is it too late to put the first two books on my Christmas list? Will my local bookstore carry them? As you know I never like to give too much away in terms of the plot in my reviews as I always think a book is better if you go into it without expectations but what I will say, in case you haven’t guessed, is I absolutely loved this book, Christie Craig has a new fan, and if you get a chance and love romantic suspense you really need to read this book! This was a new to me author and I’m always looking for a new romantic suspense series to jump into. I liked Brie and Connor. They’re both loyal, determined, and very hard working. The appeal of Don't Look Back by Chrsitie Craig is two fold: the characters and the chemistry! What kept me reading was how great Brie and Connor were and I wanted to see where they ended up. Don't Look Back will appeal to readers who like a little mystery/suspense with a character driven story! While I found the plot to drag at times, I adored the characters!

Forced to take a leave of absence, FBI Agent Brie Ryan is looking into her estranged half-sister's murder. She's posing as a waitress at the club where her sister worked before her disappearance. When her unofficial investigation brings her onto the radar of local law enforcement, Brie winds up working with a handsome detective, Connor Pierce. Known for solving cold cases, Connor and his team set out to help Brie get to the bottom of her sister's murder and the shooting of another FBI agent. When Brie's apartment is vandalized, Connor finds himself feeling extremely protective of her. Though he tries his best to remain detached, Connor is undeniably attracted to Brie and she seems to reciprocate, but as their investigation heats up, putting them both in danger, Connor must decide if he's willing to break his own rules. The mystery and suspense in this story was a bit slow for me and I got bogged down at times, but I did enjoy the complexity of the plot. Poor Connor could hardly say a thing without putting his foot in his mouth, but underneath his swaggery exterior, he was extremely vulnerable and hurting. I wish we'd seen more acknowledgement of that vulnerability and fear from Brie, rather than her simply refusing to listen to Connor most of the times he tried to have a serious conversation. Of course, Brie had her own issues, but Connor listened to everything she wanted to tell him and it would've been nice to see her be just a bit softer, at least with him. We only really saw Brie outwardly warming to Connor near the very end and that was just a bit too late for me to like her after how rude she was to Connor and to nearly every other male she encountered. I understand her needing to prove herself in a mostly male profession and I appreciate her competence, but in her attempts to do so, she often acted rashly and made poor decisions, refusing to entertain the notion that any of her male counterparts could have a better way of accomplishing things than her own. Her constant need to do everything herself and not ask for help smacked of martyrdom and was a bit tiring. That said, this behavior did make it all the more special when Brie started letting Connor in, even if that was a long time coming. Overall, despite wanting a slightly faster pace, I did enjoy the storyline and suspense here, as well as the characters, and I will likely go back and read the rest of the series. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

First her CI is murdered and soon after her half sister was murdered and she knows it was part of a human trafficking ring. In her quest to prove that she enlist her best friend to help and he ends up beaten and shot and fighting for his life. She ends up asking Conner, Mark and Juan for help as she fears there is a traitor within the FBI who is leaking information to the traffickers which is getting those close to her killed. Brie was a force to be reckoned with but also carried a load of emotional baggage from her childhood. She and Conner had the chemistry but whew so much baggage between then that had to be dealt with before any good could happen between them. I've enjoyed all 3 books in this series. Looking forward to what's next from this author.

This was a good story, with good main characters and supporting people too. I liked it and found it a really full story. Both Bree and Connor had in-depth portrayals of who they were. And also how much they had gone through both personally and professionally. It was easy to care about them and get drawn into the story. Bree had quite an unusual upbringing that included Eliot, an ex-Special Forces man. He became her "father" in every way that mattered. It was by choice rather than blood. Connor's past had him all tied up. From not only a case that went bad but also from a marriage that did too. He's not really ready to open his heart to more possible pain but Bree is definitely pushing his boundaries. I liked that and that they made a good team, when they could. There were a couple of things that needed resolving when it came to some crimes. They do get resolved but not without danger and a whole lot of twists and turns. It really kept things moving. There was one surprise that came later that caught me off guard. All, I'm going to say is that a baby shows up. Okay, all done on that, that's all you get. One thing I noticed that was kind of humorous was when Connor identified himself (even to fellow officers) they never shook his hand. Oh, he offered his hand, but got zip. I also liked how the story ended and I was satisfied indeed. "I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”

I'm wondering if this series is a bit like a roller coaster because while book 2 was a fun and nailed you right in the feels, book 3 is a little more tame. But don't get me wrong, still a great time! There was a few times I was glad we're all wearing masks now because I was grinning like and idiot underneath it and trying not to laugh out loud and disturb anyone in this silent room. What made it so great? Well, I absolutely loved the chemistry between Brie and Connor. Even though Connor is a super intelligent idiot. Meaning he always conveys his thoughts ridiculously poorly when it comes to talking to Brie about his desire to be with her and anything that has to do with feelings. It's a classic romance cliche of miscommunication. Lots of it. To the point that Connor starts going really outside of the box in order to try and prove himself to Brie. Brie, is a smart, sassy, highly capable, strong woman who guards her heart. Past heartaches from family and exs makes her a little gun shy. But when she feels a connection, she takes a chance with Connor....who almost immediately screws it up so bad Brie can barely stand to look at him. Yet the two of them are professionals and mostly manage to work together, despite their personal feelings. Their banter together is quite hilarious at times. So is the banter between Connor and his fellow Cold Case teammates. It's refreshing reading all these interactions when what they are dealing with in their jobs is obviously so heavy. From a suspense stand point I found this book less suspenseful and more like a police...drama? I pretty much pegged the leak from the start. I pegged the decoy bad guy. I pegged what was up with the kid. Pegged the deal with the bad guy...there were a lot of things that were easy to figure out. Which wasn't a bad thing. I enjoyed this book immensely. But if you are here for a mystery and/or suspense exclusively, this one may not be for you as it is very relationship driven. Ex: Brie working this case for justice for her sister. Brie working the case for Tory and Carlos. Brie is driven by her need to seek justice for her friends and loved ones and it's this the drives the story forward. Connor is driven by his need to pay for his perceived past mistakes and his approach to all his current relationships with people seemed coloured by this driving need to never let what happened in the past happen again. He's just terrible at conveying that thought via words to anyone. which makes for all the miscommunication between him and Brie. I just...loved Brie so much. It is so NICE to have a strong female character who can take on the boys repeatedly and win. At no point in time did Brie have a TSTL moment as many women characters in these types of books do. Brie is just awesome! Conclusion I would highly recommend this book to people. I would warn that there are a few things in here that can be triggering for some people. While none of it goes into detail really this book does deal with human trafficking. Therefore there is talk of rape, murder, kidnapping, drug use, etc. As well as some brief descriptions of things like the image of Brie's dead sister she got from her case file. This book also deals with kid abandonment a little bit as well. So just be aware.

What happens next was just plain fun, for for her and humiliating for the cop. It also lets us know she is acquainted with Detective Pierce. Brie had just returned to her car when her cell rang. Caller ID said it was Carlos, her partner. Only it wasn't him on the other end of the call. A police officer looking for information as to the owner of the phone. What she tells him is not something he wanted to hear. The critically injured man now in surgery, Carlos Olvera, is FBI. It's Carlos' husband Tory who tells her what Carlos hadn't had a chance to, one of their team is a mole and leaked information on a big case. One that may be connected to the one Brie is looking in to, albeit unofficially since the victim was her sister and the FBI refused to look into it. Connor and his team Juan Acosta and Mark Sutton work cold cases, but their boss pulls them into Carlos' attack. He wants answers and an arrest quickly. He knows Connor's team will do that. Brie and Connor both know they shouldn't get involved, but the inevitable happens and then Connor screws it all up. The thing is neither one of them understand that there are more than just a impulse happening. There are many twists and turns as this story unfolds and several cases intertwine and new ones open. I truly didn't see everything wrapping up, but it happened an in a most surprising and interesting way.

I have not read the earlier books in the series, however, that did not prevent me from enjoying Brie and Connor’s story. Brie is an FBI agent working undercover to learn more about her half-sister’s murder. Connor is a cold case detective who will find himself not only protecting Brie (or trying to) but getting involved in this particular cold case while falling in love with one strong, stubborn woman. Connor suffers from some significant emotional, mental issues from his past including a huge guilt complex. He’s held people off from getting too close, his communication skills really need some work, and he shouldn’t want to bring Brie into his life – but all that will change if he can find the words to explain himself and situations to Brie. That isn’t as easy as it sounds for Connor has difficulty expressing himself to others, especially someone as special to him as Brie is. The action is intense and gritty. There may be triggers within Don’t Look Back for there is human trafficking, drugs, rape, and the violence that comes with that and more. I felt what was shown was necessary to the story, others may think otherwise. I enjoyed Don’t Look Back. The story is good, smooth, the characters (good and bad) are interesting, and the puzzles to figure out are not too hard but intense enough to hold my attention. *I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher, Forever via NetGalley. Which then puts her smack dab on the path of cold case detective Connor Pierce. She knows he is the perfect person to help her solve this case, but keeping her attraction to him under wraps while doing it proves to be quite the challenge! Don't Look Back is a action packed little tale that is bound to have you wrapped up in it's words in a matter of a few pages. The moment you meet it's characters you will be drawn to them, their personalities shine brightly page after page, as well as the sparks brewing between them. These two come together to solve a case and wind up finding the love in the process, but it isn't an easy fall. Both bring a lot of baggage to the relationship and it takes time and care to sort it. I loved watching them fall for one another, it was evident that they had a special bond, but getting over their past hurts proved to be quite the hurdle for them. But little by little they gained some ground and found their way. I really enjoyed this newest installment to the series, it's well penned words held me captive from beginning to end! But he can’t help his attraction to Brie Ryan, an FBI agent who’s gone undercover trying to find out more about her sister’s murder. Violent events bring them together on an investigation. The chemistry between Connor & Brie is fun to watch & I love how Craig plays with their romantic pacing with Connor’s actions (though I do think Brie acts a bit immaturely in response.) Brie had me cheering with her unwillingness to settle for scraps, with how she stands up for herself & her needs & wants. The mysteries are intriguing & it was a distracting read post-election which I appreciated, but I also have a couple of issues with the book. I don’t quite understand how Brie got her FBI job—how she became exactly qualified her for the position—& there’s a moment with some sexist jokes that annoyed me. Overall I enjoyed this one & will definitely read more by Christie Craig, but the second book is definitely my fave of the series. 3.5 ⭐️. Thanks to Forever Pub & Netgalley for the complimentary ARC. All opinions provided are my own. [CWs: this book has quite a lot of violence & violent images. References to rape. Reference to miscarriage.]

Connor was the perfect hero for the story too! Brie and Connor’s chemistry was my favorite part – they made such a great team! 😍 I loved seeing them connect by sharing their histories and tragic pasts. The emotions that Connor and Brie felt about their lives were expressed in the best way possible through the author’s words, which made the characters feel very real to me. :’) I appreciated how Don’t Look Back’s storyline wasn’t focused on the mystery or romance aspect, but delved into family drama and social issues as well. I think with romantic suspense novels, the author is pressurized to prioritize both the couple and keep a sense of suspense throughout the story, so kudos to Christie Craig for giving the book the best supporting cast it needed, without getting off-track with the plot. 5/5 HAPPY STARS. Can’t recommend this book enough. If you’re looking for an engaging book to pick up next, this one will be perfect for you! 💜 *I received a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review*

I really enjoyed this mystery with its interesting characters and twists and turns to solve the case. My favorite character was Connor Pierce, sexy detective. I kept envisioning DI Len Bradfield from Prime Suspect: Tennison. Connor is human and flawed and isn’t afraid to show that side of himself. The focus is on the mystery plot, but there were some steamy scenes in the book. Connor and Brie have amazing chemistry and are destined to hook up. There are some serious subjects like human trafficking and murder in this book. Despite the heavier subject matter I found the book very entertaining to read. This is the third book in the Texas Justice series, but I don’t think I missed much backstory by not reading the other books in the series. You have action, suspense, humor, and some steamy sex. Bree is tough but with a heart of gold. Connor is sexy and protective. This is the third book in the series. There is a happy ending and several surprises. * Voluntarily read and reviewed this for NetGalley *

I was really hopeful for this one because it sounded so good based on the blurb. But I had a hard time getting into it. The main characters Brie and Connor are decent characters. They both have their own issues. But they both are also hard working and more than willing to do anything for people they care about. Connor has been struggling since something happened to him on the job and it was just exacerbated by his divorce. Brie is undercover trying to find out what happened to her sister. And certainly doesn't expect to have an attraction to Connor. And they do have a chemistry that I liked. It was more that the plot and story were very slow for me. It almost felt like there was something missing but I really can't put my finger on exactly what it is. The writing itself is decent, it was just slow for me.

This was a fun Suspense Romance about an FBI agent and a Cop. I love romances and thrillers that deal with law enforcement! It had the perfect mix of action and romance. I really enjoyed the pacing of this one and the romance didn't overshadow the investigation which I enjoyed. If you are looking for a new suspenseful romance be sure to check this one out! Christie Craig brings the heat back to Texas with the third installment of her Texas Justice book, DON'T LOOK BACK. What happens when a “by-the-book FBI agent trusts a risk-taking detective for help in tracking down her sister’s killers?” All the good stuff, that’s what. FBI agent Brie Ryan is working undercover in the strip club where her half-sister was murdered, and when the shit hit the fan, desperately turns to Detective Connor Pierce for help. I don't read a lot of series books but after reading the first one in the Texas Justice series, I was hooked. Absolutely loved this one! Conner and Brie are by far my favorite characters to this point. I might have gotten a little misty-eyed over Casey, though. The story is well written, the characters totally developed and the plot had enough twists and turns to keep you guessing. The only negative I have is there were a lot of people toward the end involved and, being my age, I guess, I got a little confused as to who was who, but that was not enough to detract from my overall rating of five stars and highly recommended status! I really enjoy all of Christie's work and look forward to the next one!

The plot should have interesting based on the summary, but it could have been smoothed out for a more cohesive read. The characters had promise, but not much believability or appeal (as a couple or as individuals). If the plot was smoothed out, it might help with that as well. As it was, they were rather one dimensional and kind of bland.

This is the third book in the Texas Justice series and my 3rd read by this author. In this book, we follow Brie and Connor as they search for Brie's sister's killer. Between Connor's commitment issues and Brie's drive to solve the case, the two find themselves fighting their attraction to each other. I am unsure if the series continues or if it is just a trilogy. The story lends itself to the possibility of at least spinoffs.

I haven't read a novel by Christie Craig in almost 10 years, and after reading Don't Look Back, I don't know why I've left it so long. As this story, though a little slow to begin quickly captured my interest and even with the bad guy identified early on there were still many twists along the way. Not to mention the characters were intriguing and likable, and the romance between Connor and Bree pleasing. Would recommend. **I was kindly provided with an ARC via the Publisher in exchange for an honest review**

FBI agent Brie Ryan's latest mission is personal. She's posing as a waitress at the Black Diamond strip club, the same club where her estranged half sister worked until she turned up dead. When Brie's undercover assignment is compromised, she turns to the only man she knows who can help her: Connor Pierce, a too-sexy-for-his-own-good, rule-breaking cop with a knack for solving cold cases. This just didn’t vibe with me. In my opinion the book had too much going on plot wise. It was hard to keep up and differentiate. I think I would have rather had the focus of the story be on Brie’s search for her sister’s killer rather than the FBI mole. To me that storyline had more emotional weight. I also felt the characters didn’t have chemistry. Their banter and dynamic wasn’t cute, sexy or steamy. There was no tension between them.
