This is a surprisingly good collection of news and feature articles that I think will be a useful reference for any new writer or english learner. The collection of works covers a good range of topics, including reporting and essays on natural disasters, sports and family life. There is definitely something interesting in this collection for everyone.

What I enjoyed about the book, besides the curated content, is the short introductions that precede each work, guiding readers on technique and style. For longer forms, the author also helped to shortened the piece, making each story less daunting and easily digestible.
Having said that, there were some parts where I felt it might be a let down for a student. For example, some of the words in the chosen texts were quite obscure but were never explained by the author (as compared to other words that were pointed out in the footnotes). Furthermore, I think the texts could be better annotated to help the reader see what the original author intended - to complement the preceding introductions. Right now, I don't think this book can reach its educational intent without an accompanying teacher or some supplement notes. Nevertheless, I still think this is a good read and rate it three stars.
