This is a nice resource for writers who are looking for something quick so that they don't have to keep using the same verbs over and over. It is broken down into subsections so that you can get more specific with what you want to write, which I really appreciate. This is a reference book full of useful verbs, like a thesaurus dialed in specifically for the fiction writer. It has easy to find, quick to use suggestions for weak verbs. Because I borrowed this with Kindle Unlimited and will have to return it, I do think I’ll end up purchasing a copy to have at hand when I’m revising. The suggestions are plentiful, and just a single strong verb can spark an entire creative process at the keyboard. It's as basic at it gets. I gave it a 4 stars for the promise of delivering 1,000 verbs for fiction writer. But they are not all that Strong or game changers. Obviously, this is meant for writers. All you will find here is a list of words. So please don't make the purchase if you are looking for words and usage by example. There are no examples of great ways to use the words. As a writer, that is up to you. Great little book. It's as basic at it gets. Nothing new here I did not find this book any different than a good thesaurus and it did not contain many of the words I was looking for. I gave it 3 stars because it does provide more information than a simple google search and if you don't already own a good thesaurus you might find it helpful. Must Have I obtained this through Kindle Unlimited. I will be buying this (and any others by Ms. Howard) because the set up is simple: what verb (adjective, what have you) you have, what will strengthen your sentence? Much better than a thesaurus.

This is a valuable tool to have. I have used it a few times during my writing. It gives good alternatives and broadens my descriptive language greatly. It is handy to use and gives great ideas when stuck or when you become repetitive. Great book.

A Thesaurus Would Be a Better Guide This is just a list of synonyms with no context of how they should be used. One must be careful because without proper meaning listed you can over or under describe your characters action.

If you're a writer, this is a good resource to add to your collection. Howard addresses the problem of weak verbs, which she defines as "ones that pop into our minds first." The intent of her latest book is to help the writer choose stronger verbs that name the action, tell how the action is performed, and bring up an instant mental image. While this book is similar to what you could find in a thesaurus, the information is specific to commonly used verbs. I read an advance copy, so my version didn't have a clickable TOC where the reader could jump to a specific verb, but I was informed that it >would be in the final copy. That factor would add to the usefulness of this book. This would be an appropriate book for writers of all ages and levels. Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy, but I wasn't required to leave a positive review.

I own the author’s book, “1000 Character Reactions and love it”. So when she released “1000 Strong Verbs for fiction writers I bought the Kindle version. Once she released the print version, I had to add it to my editing library. Two things I like about these books: the author’s research and the way she left blank space after each so you can add any of your favorites to the list. Useful-worth the time It's a Thesaurus that is arranged well. I think when a verb is replaced by a stronger verb, it's a common concept. What I liked was looking up a stronger verb-it inspired me to use "phrases" that "replaced" the weak verb. The book is very useful in that way.
