A SWEET AND WORTHY END TO A WONDERFUL SERIES I'll be honest, I didn't love every book in this series. But these last few have been superb. And this one was certainly worthy of ending the series. 👍 What I Liked 👍 Cynthia: Perhaps one of my favourite heroines in this series! Cynthia was absolutely delightful. I loved how she threw caution to the wind and didn't give a fig about social conventions - except to actively try to digress against them! She was very refreshing. Alexander: It was nice to finally get Alexander's story, we've been waiting a while for that one! I liked how Alexander was so conscious of his duties as a duke, how much he wanted to please everyone else. And I especially liked how Cynthia made him forget all that. They were definitely opposites and an odd pair, but it totally worked! 👎 What I Disliked 👎 Smut scene: This is just a minor thing, but I am so used to getting a bit of smut with this series. I was really disappointed that this installment... had no smut! 😅 ARC provided by the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review Follow me for more book loving content! *3.5 stars* Another enjoyable, if a bit far-fetched, romance in the 12 Dukes of Christmas series by Erica Ridley, Forever Your Duke was a positively pleasant read. Forever Your Duke was a bit of an opposites-attract romance with a 30-year old dare-devil spinster matched with a buttoned-up duke. I liked their dynamic, even though the relationship development was too speedy for my liking (a consistent issue with this author's books). I thought it was a bit of a stretch that he would ignore his mother and all that he's proclaimed to stand for in a just a few days time of being with Cynthia Louise, but I still thought it was very sweet. I was a bit disappointed that all we get, heat-wise, from this romance is a few kisses, but Erica Ridley tends to be lighter on the steam. However, this was chaste, even for her. It felt like the book could have used another few chapters to round it out and give more time after the couple finally admitted their feelings for one another. Still, an easy read and an enjoyable start to my 2021 reading year. *Copy provided in exchange for an honest review* goodreads|instagram|twitter|blog

The reason I picked this up was because I'd been seeing this in my feed, and seeing 'Duke', 'Christmas', and 'Romance', I was sold. This might be one of the very few Christmas themed books I've read this month, but this was definitely one of the best. Though, when I say best, I do not say this is the best romance I've ever read. Or even the best Christmas romance. Or the best Historical Romance. Rather, this was one of the best in terms of enjoyment. This book is pure indulgence. It reads like a crack fic in some places, but I love it for that. I read this when I wasn't able to sleep, and finished it in one sitting, under one and a half hour, because this was short and sweet. We had the opposites attract trope and the insta-love trope (are you in disbelief that I liked a insta-love? Believe me I am too), but it was done so well, and and not only done well, but...I don't know exactly, but the execution was just awesome! That being said, I probably liked the dog and Gertie more than I did the actual characters, but who cares? In some portions this seemed so bewilderingly stupid and awkward that I had to put down the phone and scream into my pillow because everyone around me was sleeping. Not that I would have screamed if everyone was awake, but you get the point. This book reminded me a lot of Serpent & Dove, in the sense that Cynthia Louise and her vulgarity and boisterousness reminded me a lot of Lou's. really, when I was reading 'wenching-ladies', all I could think of was 'Big Titty Liddy'. And similarly, Alexander and his closetedness, the obsession with 'duty' and 'the right thing', reminded me a lot of Reid. On the whole a very good feel good romance, but be warned, this is not supposed to make sense. This is pure indulgence. I recommend it to anyone who likes historical romance, dukes and their duchies, boisterous and loud characters paired with shy and uptight ones, and a good feel-good romance to commemorate the holidays.

He knows where his duty lies and is determined to find a bride who is as proper and respectable as he is. Cynthia Louise Finch once adhered faithfully to all of society’s strictures. But since she was rejected by the ton anyway, she’s given up on respectability and embraced her new reputation as an unapologetically brazen spinster. Her beloved younger cousin, however, would be the perfect fit for the duke’s standards and Cynthia is determined to make a match of them to save her cousin from marriage to a man old enough to be her grandfather. Unfortunately, Cynthia has always carried a torch for the duke despite being on the periphery of his notice for years. Only this year, he seems to be noticing her for the first time. Alexander knows he must be respectable no matter what his true desires are and yet he finds himself falling for a determinedly inappropriate woman, leaving him to decide if he’ll continue to do what’s expected of him or follow his heart. I enjoyed this book overall, although it did seem slightly anticlimactic as the finale to this series. I loved the festive setting and these two opposites as a couple. I just wish there had been some steam and that Alexander had stood up for himself, and Cynthia, a bit sooner and more thoroughly. It was nice to see these two choose each other and make a realistic compromise to be together. Overall, I enjoyed this one and this series of light and fun escapes. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Blog link: https://mustreadalltheromance.blogspo...

He needs to find a proper duchess and unapologetic hoyden Cynthia Louise Finch simply will not do. But, that doesn't mean he isn't drawn to her. The rumor is the Duke of Nottingvale's Christmas house party will be doubling as a bride hunt. Alexander is finally heeding his mother's incessant requests that he find a wife and begin his legacy. This year's guest list is filled with winsome blue-blooded debutantes with all the pedigrees and accolades expected in a Duke's bride to be. Miss Cynthia Louise Finch, incorrigible spinster and unapologetic hoyden, is serving as her younger cousin's chaperone to the Duke's house party. She aged out of her seasons long ago and is the exact opposite of what a Duke would want in his Duchess. Having failed at the marriage mart years ago after following all the rules she has decided her life would be better lived if she never followed any of those silly rules ever again. But, as Cynthia Louise is determined to help her cousin land a good and respectable husband, she has set her sites on the most perfect man seeking a wife and help him realize what a catch her cousin is. The only problem is that Cynthia Louise has always had a certain affinity for the handsome Duke. And, said handsome duke can't seem to keep his attention to the proper, respectable ladies of his party but instead the beguiling spinster with a penchant for mischief. Cynthia-Louise is a super fun character. She snubs her nose at all the ludicrous societal rules and does what she wants. Skiing down slopes? Drinking illegal champagne while playing billiards? Ice racing? You name it, she does it and well. I loved her lust for life. Now, I am also a HUGE fan of gruff, grumpy, stuffy male characters that are taunted, teased, and ensnared into better attitudes. I wouldn't say Alexander was a stuck up prude but more of a vanilla, apple pie, follows all the rules all the time sort. It was a treat to see him work his way out of his shell and live a little. I really liked Forever Your Duke. I am sad to see the series end but it definitely ended with a story that made me smile. I sort of wish we had an epilogue to catch up with all our couples but.... I'm just happy with all our HEA's living on in perpetuity. *ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.*

The Duke only follows the rules, yet he is drawn to Cynthia Louise and finds himself bending and breaking his own rules. The characters in this book are great. Cynthia with her devil may care attitude which i believe is a front to get over the hurt of her past; The Duke who appears very rigid at first and the way in which he slowly unwinds and lightens up. Even shy Gertie has character and loyalty in spades to her cousin. A great book to finish off this series. #12Dukes #NetGalley

Cynthia Louise was a fun character and I think she deserved better than Nottingvale, a rather bland hero whose main characteristic was his sense of duty. Who was he outside of that? I really can't say (except that he was an appalling singer, which I rather liked). I missed a little more tension between the two or a better understanding of what exactly drew them to each other, other than the narrative wanted them to. But like the other books in this series, Forever Your Duke was a fun, light, somewhat Christmassy read. I read it in one sitting and enjoyed myself throughout. It can be read as a standalone book but as this book brings together all the characters whose stories have been told in the previous books it's nice to have read those stories first. During the previous books, we have seen 11 couples form and all of them have in one way or another been in attendance at the Duke of Nottingvale's Christmas house party. Now the story focuses on the Duke himself and how during the festivities he intends to pick a bride. Miss Cynthia Louise Finch wants the woman he picks to be her younger, very shy cousin Gertie. The latter's father is going to force her into an arranged marriage that benefits him if Gertie doesn't come home betrothed to the Duke. The trouble is that Cynthia has a soft spot for the Duke herself and despite her not being suitable Duchess material the Duke finds he has a soft spot for Cynthia too. They both know that he can't marry her and Cynthia is still hoping he will choose Gertie, but that doesn't stop them stealing some passionate moments when they can't help themselves. Is there anyway they could have a future together, not if the Duke's mother has any say in it! I think this has to be my favourite book in the series purely because not only do we get the Duke and Cynthia's beautifully romantic story, but as I mentioned before, the previous couples from the other books are mentioned. I remembered the particular scenes from those books and enjoyed reading them now taking part but in the background as it were of this story. It really was cleverly done. I am sad that the series has come to an end, but I can guarantee that it will be one that I read over and over again. The town of Cressmouth (AKA Christmas) with its year-round festivities and it's wonderful residents and visitors have claimed a place in my heart.

This is my second read in the 12 Dukes of Christmas series by Erica Ridley. Like One Night with a Duke it was a solid edition to a fluffy historical romance series. Perfect for the holidays and it featured a “spinster” Cynthia, who is actually 30 years old instead of 21. There isn’t much tension within these Christmas themed books, so if that is something that bothers you, I don’t recommend this series. However, I thought this was a fun and sweet read. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Erica Ridley's stories are always so much fun to read and this one is no exception. I also think Cynthia Louise is now my favourite heroine:) What a delight she is, caring not what the ton thinks of her and doing what pleases her and makes her happy. Her least favourite thing is following rules! The Duke of Nottingvale is the absolute opposite, rules are to be followed and doing what is expected of him is at the forefront. Now he is looking for the perfect lady to become his Duchess.....certainly Erica Ridley's stories are always so much fun to read and this one is no exception. This was an easy, enjoyable read but not my favorite in the series. Disappointed at the lack of sex. Can’t wait for Ms. Ridley’s next title though!! *I received an eARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

The odd couple. Cynthia Louise is the most fun character I have ever read. She loves life, lives by her own rules and regrets nothing. Well, nothing except falling in love with Alexander. He is holding a Christmastide house party to find a wife and Cynthia Louise does not fit the mold of a ton proper duchess. She is branded a hoyden and some people in society treat her like a disease to be avoided and is disgusting. It use to hurt her but no longer. She has plenty of friends that accept her as she is, she does what she likes, she is free and happy. What more could she ask for? Nothing was going right for Alexander. His sister Belle is betrothed to his partner, a tailor and he and his mother feel it has brought scandal to their door. He must make an appropriate match to overshadow any negative scandal of his sister. The house party was delayed for two weeks due to the snow and now he had only two weeks to find a bride. When Cynthia Louise first arrived with her cousin Gertie her plan was to match her with Nottingvale. But Gertie had a requirement of her own. She insisted Cynthia Louise help Nottingvale evaluate each debutante for suitability and if in the end she found that Gertie was the one, she would then marry him. Well, the opportunity to get to know Alexander had opened but it was Alexander who became fascinated with Cynthia Louise and it did not stop. She tried to encourage Alexander to separate the duty of a duke and having a life as a person. As a result, he tried to play billiards and had fun; he tried to ski and felt terrified and exhilarated. He was falling for Cynthia Louise but knew he could never marry her. They tried to deny their attraction to each other but ended up with passionate kisses day after day. His mother was appalled he was neglecting his house guest to spend time with that horrible woman. Alexander was developing a backbone and was starting to show it. When Cynthia Louise was seriously injured, he realized he loved her, did not want to live without her but knew his duty would not permit him to marry her. He insulted her with his proposal of marriage. Told her she had to change to meet societies standards. She said no and slammed the door in his face. I could not blame her. If he loved her, he would have to accept her as she was. But Gertie even at eighteen gave Cynthia Louise some sage advice about how she no different than Alexander was. They were more alike than she realized. This opened Cynthia Louise's eyes but what to do now. In the end Alexander made his decision who to marry. A dynamic, page turning amusing story. I loved it. A must read. I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review. With the 12th book in the 12 Dukes of Christmas series, Erica Ridley has absolutely hit this one out of the park. The guest list is full of eligible young ladies, all of whom would be eminently suitable to be his duchess… and one lady who is entirely unsuitable, but he can’t keep away from. Cynthia Louise Finch is, at thirty, long past concerning herself what anyone thinks of her. She’s firmly on the shelf and has decided she rather likes it there, since she can do anything she likes without fearing incurring anyone’s disapproval. She does care very much about the welfare of her young cousin Gertrude, however, and plans to matchmake Gertrude with Nottingvale to save Gertrude from a much worse fate as planned by her father. Cynthia Louise is an absolute delight. She’s whimsical, fearless, and loving. Frankly, the only thing I found incredible was that she didn’t already have hordes of swains throwing themselves at her feet. It was no wonder Nottingvale couldn’t resist her; she must have seemed like a neon rainbow blazing into his dull, grey, orderly world. They were fantastic together. There were several callbacks to other books in the series, and while it must have been tempting to revisit everyone in this, the last of the 12, Ridley didn’t make that mistake, just sprinkling a few references with a gentle hand. She created a lovely world here in Cressmouth, the village where it’s always Christmas and dukes are around every corner (though not always the kind of duke you expect). I’ve been entirely charmed by it and I’d highly recommend the whole series to anyone looking to lose themselves in the spirit of Christmas… the whole year round. Five stars for a lovely conclusion to a delightful series. Disclaimer: I received a review copy of this title via NetGalley.

When I picked this up, I was looking for something cute and simple. Something that would hold my attention, and not require a lot of it. This was exactly what I was looking for. I just want to say that even though I’ve shelved this as historical fiction, it isn’t super historical. It’s set in the time period, sure, with the fancy ballgowns and social standards, but no history is discussed. I enjoyed this, because I didn’t have to remember names, titles, or events, but if you’re a history geek, this might not be the book for you. This book was full of adorable characters! I loved Max, Gertie’s puppy, and how he was constantly causing trouble. Gertie was a super fun character to read, and I’m really happy with where her story seems to be taking her. Cynthia and Alexander were cute together, I really enjoyed all of the scenes when they interacted. Their romance felt natural, and not like it was thrown in to add extra drama. Now, don’t go into this expecting anything that’ll shock you. It’s a predictable, short, and sweet Christmas romance. The setting is magical, and I loved how carefree this is. If you enjoy romances set in medieval times, this book is for you! Thanks to Netgalley and Erica Ridley for providing a free copy in exchange for an honest review!

However, it is the chaperone of one his prospects who he can't help but keep an eye on. Miss Cynthia Louise Finch has a reputation for being a wild spinster, and others tend to look down on her. Despite his reservations, the duke realizes that he can't stay away from Cynthia Louise and decides to make his own choices about who to love, rather than listen to those around him who insist he seek out anyone other than her. Forever Your Duke is a sweet, wholesome story that made my heart flutter. The characters and plot were entertaining, and I loved Cynthia Louise's sarcasm and the freedom she embraced, not caring about what others thought of her. Alexander, the duke, was charming and kind, and watching him finally stand up for himself and go after what he wanted made me realize that he was worthy of Cynthia's love. I did think that the plot was a bit rushed between the two characters, and the chemistry between them was adequate but nothing that made me feel passionate about their relationship. Overall though, this was a lighthearted read that was quick and enjoyable! A huge thank you to NetGalley and WebMotion for providing an ARC of Forever Your Duke!

I received an advanced reader copy from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. This is the sort of story that I really enjoy. It has the starched up Duke of Nottingvale who is hosting a house party to find the perfect bride to be his duchess. It can't just be anyone though. It has to be someone who follows the rules of polite society, someone with impeccable breeding, and someone who has been born and bred to become the wife of an aristocrat. It has to be someone who follows the rules of polite society, someone with impeccable breeding, and someone who has been born and bred to become the wife of an aristocrat. This person is most definitely not Miss Cynthia Louise Finch, confirmed spinster, who is acting as the chaperone of her cousin, Gertrude. Even though this is a completely clean romance, I still managed to feel chemistry between the characters. I feel like that is difficult to do, and I think Erica Ridley is someone who can truly pull it off. The relationship between Alexander and Cynthia was fun and light-hearted, and was a joy to read. I felt like Cynthia brought out the best side of him, and I enjoyed watching their love grow throughout the story. I always enjoy watching someone defy their duty and choose love over everything else. I rooted for Cynthia who was bullied by the ton for pushing boundaries, being herself, and not caring what others thought of her. I was happy that she got her happy ending with Alexander. My only complaint is I wish it had been a little longer so I could have gotten to enjoy their antics together a little bit longer. The more I read Erica, the more her books grow on me.

Miss Cynthis Louise was supposed to matchmake and shaperone her cousin, Gertie to the Duke of Nottingvale's Christmastide this year. This year the Duke apparently is to be chose his bride, so Cynthia is certain that with her smartness she will make the Duke chose her cousin. What she didn't expect was for her to be so infatuated for the Duke, and the Duke didn't expect to long for the only woman in the Christmastide he should not be interested. I was mesmerized by the author's ability to make great dialogues between these two characters clashing. Loved to see the Duke trying to find a way to live his life and not being ruled by his duties and forget about his heart. Cynthis would never change for any man, even for the man she loves, so it was refreshing seeing someone so set on her beliefs and on herself. LOVED HER SELF STEEM. Also, it was a very sweet romance between the Duke and Cynthiam I appreciate the longing and stolen kisses.

Quick, fun read with an audacious, lively heroine who teaches a duke that there’s more to life than just duty. "Miss Finch was the opposite of proper. She was a firework in a box of candles." Cynthia Louise Finch is on a mission to matchmake her young cousin to Alexander Borland, Duke of Nottingvale, whose famous Christmas party, this year, is also a mission to find a suitable, respectable wife. Two words that no one would ever use to describe Cynthia, who has forged her own path of happiness after failing to make a match during her previous London seasons. He's always noticed her but he's always chosen to look away. However, this year, for some reason, he's finding it very hard to look away...or keep away from her. "We all eventually die, whether we want to or not. The question is how you want to live." This was an enjoyable romp. Cynthia is an absolute delight who really strives to live life to the full on her own terms. Alexander has had his duty drummed into him ever since he was born, but Cynthia shows him that he can do his duty and also enjoy life. Cynthia is by no means without her soft spots, as she wears her bad reputation like a suit of armour. The two of them together were funny, full of banter, and pretty darn sweet!

This story isn’t quite enemies to lovers, but it’s certainly a case of opposites attract. Alexander has never met a rule or regulation that he didn’t respect. After being soundly beaten down by all those obligations and expectations, Cynthia has no time to bother with being “proper” anymore. These two should be the farthest thing from what each other wants, and yet neither one can deny the chemistry that keeps pulling them together.
