Don't even waste your time reading this book. It is really short, full of cuss words, and the ending is awful! Why do authors do that!! Don't even waste your time reading this book. It is really short, full of cuss words, and the ending is awful! Why do authors do that!!

The first time I read this was at school, unable to remember much and as my daughter is reading it at school I thought I would read it agin. Really enjoyed it and reading "The story Behind Of Mice and Men" [The Story Behind John Steinbeck's of Mice and Men|186520] alongside it has been really interesting. This story had a sad and shocking ending. I don’t understand why a best friend would kill a best friend, this is story was interesting but also sad at the same time. I was about to cry in the ending when he was making his best friend dream of something wonderful and then shot him with the gun later. I think the story could have been written better. But it’s also fine the way it is. I did like the starting because it was going smoothly.

I enjoyed many things about this book. It had an interesting premise which was fun to follow. It gave me perspective to something that I didn’t know much about. The characters had many layers and there was a lot of deep thought and emotion. There was also a lot of both positive and negative chemistry between characters which always kept it interesting.

There was 0 plot, 0 character development, the characters had no depth and I felt nothing for any of them - although the ending made me a little 😢

A short, sad story set in the USA during The Great Depression. George and Lennie travel around California searching for work. Due to Lennie’s previous behaviour, they had to move on quickly from their last job. Although Lennie promises to be careful, his behaviour gets out of hand again with dire consequences. The story is sad. Unfair too. You will be devastated. Lennie clearly has social difficulties, but back then he was more likely to be judged harshly then helped. The story is sad. Unfair too. You will be devastated. Lennie clearly has social difficulties, but back then he was more likely to be judged harshly then helped. George does his best, but even he lets Lennie down at some point. I can well imagine that’s how things were at the time. Thank goodness we have moved on. I found the story laboured in parts and full of racism and sexism, but then I have to think of the time it was set in. I thank God it was a short story because I couldn’t bear much of it. I like to think, that we learn how to be better people from these brutal books from the past. The message I got from this book was ‘how quick we are to judge without looking deeper.’ I am going to give it five stars because it was well written and true to its time. The climactic event was, unfortunately, predictable, but the ending was quite a shock.

I, like many Americans, read this in high school. The writing style was fine, and I think what they wanted us to see as students was a specific time period and the vernacular that was associated with it, but...just...no. I don't know how hard I have ever hated a book since this one. I was actually scarred for life. I am having a hard time even writing this review. I was not the ideal audience, but I also thought the puppies were gratuitous. I, like many Americans, read this in high school. Wasn't the best of his books, but still it's short and sweet, well, ok, not sweet, but good nevertheless. Wasn't the best of his books, but still it's short and sweet, well, ok, not sweet, but good nevertheless.
