I haven’t watched the show so this story was new to me. A nice blend of plot and learning as there was plenty of information provided about both France and Indonesia. The art was cute.

I liked that they did a graphic novel instead of a novelization for this episode of season 1 in the new Carmen sandiego series. It told the story well and was fun to read. I also liked the fun facts for the countries they visited at the end.

This is just the sticky rice caper episode in graphic novel format. Nothing new (except for several - and I mean several - unneeded exclamation marks). It doesn't even have an author listed! I think young grade school kids may like this, but I could be wrong. It was much too young for me and I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have. The book wasn't bad, but it wasn't the Carmen Sandiego I know and love. The book wasn't bad, but it wasn't the Carmen Sandiego I know and love.

Adventure! Heroism! Suspense! Carmen Sandiego: The Sticky Rice Caper has it all. Carmen is on another case to stop VILE (Villains’ International League of Evil) from ruining the world. Carmen ventures from Paris, France to Jakarta, Indonesia in order to stop VILE from releasing a biochemical onto the rice paddies which would destroy the entire countries main crop and force the citizens to buy VILE’s rice products. With the help of Carmen’s team and camouflaged weapons, she defeats the VILE opera Adventure! Heroism! Suspense! Carmen Sandiego: The Sticky Rice Caper has it all. With the help of Carmen’s team and camouflaged weapons, she defeats the VILE operatives and saves Jakarta from a horrible fate. This Carmen Sandiego graphic novel is based on the Netflix series which is popular with young children. The novel includes a variety of diverse characters on both the heroes and villains side. There are males and females of many ethnicities and body types with an assortment of knowledge and tasks to complete. Besides Carmen, there are many strong female characters who are significant in solving the case. Whenever Carmen travels to another country, the novel lists all important information for that area. For example, it explains that Jakarta is known as The Big Durian, which is named after their native fruit, similar to New York City being called The Big Apple. While the storyline is excellent, the illustrations are lacking. Most pages only focus on one color tone which makes them dull to view. Young readers will enjoy this graphic novel series to learn about other cultures and will be inspired by the strong characters that good will defeat evil.

My Review: I had to pick this one up for Munchkin to try to get him into Carmen Sandiego as much I am. I really appreciate how you don't have to know all the backstory before getting into this book, it has a break down of the characters and history right at the beginning. It is a fun and quick read full of action and adventure. While it isn't quite the same as when I was a kid, it does suit the current times. If you haven't checked out Carmen Sandiego on Netflix yet, you should really give it a go. It's pure fun. This graphic novel starts after Carmen has already left VILE island and is out trying to stop the baddies. It's pretty much the show in book form. I enjoyed it and it will make an excellent addition to my class library. If you haven't checked out Carmen Sandiego on Netflix yet, you should really give it a go. It's pure fun. I thought the plot was pretty basic in this story, but the graphics will appeal to lots of young readers. It also works well with the NSW Primary curriculum focus on Asia, as in this story Carmen visits Indonesia. The facts about France and Indonesia at the end of the book are useful curriculum tie-ins.

This was fun. The artwork was colorful and similar to children's animated movies. I think kids will enjoy the action and learn from Sandiego's travels. It's different from when I was a kid, but the modern update was well-done. This was fun. The artwork was colorful and similar to children's animated movies. Besides the additional facts about the countries they visit, there's no additional story from the episode it's covering. Besides the additional facts about the countries they visit, there's no additional story from the episode it's covering.

Cute little graphic novel. Carmen Sandiego is now one of the good guys, stealing from the VILE henchmen and thwarting their plans. The facts are nice, but the story is predictable.
