Another winning crime novel! With Mel's books you know you are in for a good read. One of the more consistent authors I've read. I'll be reading more of Kayli's criminal pursuits very soon. A solid crime novel.

Another cracking book Don't know how she does it, but Mel Comley, has done it again. Subject matter a bit darker than usual. But handled very delicately . The story moves at a fast pace, struggle to keep up at times. I could easily have read in one sitting if I didn't have to go to work. Got to get book 2 soon. When DI Kayli Bright and her partner DS Dave Chaplin are called to an abandoned warehouse to investigate a crime, they find the body of a young girl, and once identified, find she's been missing for several weeks. Determined to find the responsible culprit, several of the dead child's family members surface on their radar of suspects...until they learn of another child's abduction. Bright and her team soon learn of several other children who have disappeared in the same area. They must work harder and faster than ever before to find the missing children before they start finding more bodies. The author has done a remarkable job in addressing the issue of missing children and child trafficking, as well as the violence and brutality of what happens to most of them. It's hard to read the descriptions of what happened to the first child found dead. This is an extremely emotional book. I love getting in on the beginning of a new series with new characters to learn. These characters are terrific. Both Kayli and Dave are non-hardened officers of the law even though they've both seen things that most of us have never heard of. They are both dedicated to bringing justice to the victims.. and to their families. And they are both bull dogs when it comes to ferreting out the bad guys. There are a lot of suspects to sort through, lies and secrets to dig through. The suspense starts at the very first page and just doesn't let up. The ending was a bit of surprise and just the barest cliff hangar that hopefully leads to a book 2 soon. Many thanks to the author for providing the advance digital copy of THE MISSING CHILDREN. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

And after weeks, when the child’s body is found and at last they have a sketch, the investigating detective doesn’t ask the parents if they know the culprit. A school teacher just hands over the child to a stranger, because that said stranger says the mother of the child is injured and couldn’t come!!! What??? We tell the children all the time if someone comes and tells you your mom or dad sent us, don’t go with them, and a grown up teacher, who is there to keep the children out of harm’s way just gives the child to this stranger? And the school just sends her home for a couple of weeks to rest, because she is distressed! Another child’s body is found at 2/3 of the book. The father says he had to work and his wife had to go to doctor, so the child was in the care of the mother’s friend. But then we find out that the child has a baby-sitter!!! So what was she doing at the friend's house?? I have read a lot of horrific and gruesome books, but this one distressed me a lot because it was violence towards little children. At some point the detective asks the Medical Examiner if there is a sign of intercourse! What??? The victim is 7 years old for crying out loud!!! Intercourse? They have important leads to follow and in each instance the lead detective says she wants to grab a cup of coffee first…lol…infuriating!

What a fantastic new story by MA Comley!! This story is straight forward, pulling no punches as the investigation finds fault with several people close to the victims, and must interrogate all openly. This story pulls you in on the first page and does not let you retreat until the last line.I am already anticipating the next story, as some interesting moments occur at the end of this one. All who love suspenseful thrillers need to read this book,as long as you can keep your own emotions in check while you read, for I was sobbing through some things myself. A great story handled realistically with a wonderful team of police officers..

Wow, what a start to a new crime series! Due to the nature of the storyline, some parts of the story were uncomfortable to read but the author has handled it all very sensitively so we get the horror of the crime without delving to deep. Being a huge fan of author Mel Comley, I was thrilled when she recently announced the publication of a brand new trilogy. I was curious to see what this mini-series would be like and to tell the truth a bit apprehensive about whether I would enjoy it or not. But in the end I needn't have worried. The Missing Children, the first book, is a corker, but I must warn readers that it's a much darker read than the author's previous books. A couple of youngsters make a gruesome discovery in the basement of an old derelict house. It's the decomposing body of a young girl. Who was this child? How did she end up there? What happened to her? DI Kyli Bright of the Avon and Somerset Constabulary, together with her partner, DS Dave Chaplin, rush to the scene. From the body's condition it's evident that the victim was brutally murdered and dumped in the basement. What monster would do such a horrible thing to a young child? Why? With no time to lose, Kyli kicks off an investigation which leads her and her team to a trail of missing girls. When another girl is snatched from a park and another body turns up, Kyli and her team become desperate to catch the monster responsible. Where are the other missing children? Is it too late for them? How can Kyli solve this case with no leads or trace evidence? Will she be able to stop the killer before more girls are kidnapped and killed? Well I really enjoyed reading this fast-paced book, following - no, more like, trying to keep up with - Kayli and her team through twists and turns to solve the case. Like the author's previous books, the plot is quite intriguing and well thought out, keeping me pinned to my kindle, rushing through the pages, desperate to find out if and how Kayli would bring the perpetrator to justice. Kyli is a fabulous character. She's feisty, determined and audacious, and won't leave one stone unturned to get the answers she needs. Some readers might be put off by the main theme of the book, but rest assured the author tackles this delicate subject sensitively and without being too graphic. Finally, one must not forget that this is book one in a trilogy, and the ending indicates a continuation of some of the secondary storylines leaving the reader yearning for more. Now I can't wait to meet Kayli Bright again in book 2. The Missing Children is a brilliant start to a fab new mini-series and I highly recommend it. With thanks to the author for an ARC of the book which I voluntarily accepted to read and review.

They left me thinking that'd I'd probably react in the same way, if faced with a similar situation. So many children go missing, and large numbers are either found dead, or not found at all. I liked how some characters made reference to high profile missing children cases and how little media coverage the majority of children get in comparison to them. Like the characters do, it makes me wonder, why? I've read a number of Mel's books and I think this is her best yet. A great book to end the year with, and one I'll be recommending everyone should read.

I discovered Mel Comley's writing about three years ago and since then she's been a powerhouse in getting novels out to her fans. But she's not married to the job like some fictional detectives, oh no, she's got a hunk at home that she's planning on marrying! And that makes this character human! The opening few chapters totally set the scene for me; the young lovebirds finding the remains of a child, the start of the police investigation and then we get the perspective of our culprit - who is "he"? Really kept me guessing! Ms Comley has written a very dark crime thriller here. And I can't not mention that cover! I don't know who she has designing her covers but Mel Comley has one brilliant contact there. It's a simple design but it speaks volumes about the story.

The Missing Children is the first book in the DI Kayli Bright trilogy and OMG what a Trilogy this is going to be! There is nothing NOT to like about this book.I couldn't turn the pages fast enough and read this in a matter of hours. This has to be the authors darkest book and for those of you that read my reviews know I love dark and this is just that. DI Kayli Bright is determined to find out who is responsible for the child's death where we follow an investigation that leads to the conclusion that more children in the area have been abducted. So the title is exactly what it says it This is one of those stories that talks about a very dark subject matter.Which some readers may find uncomfortable with a paedophile ring involved. But I have to say sensitivity is show in Mel’s excellent writing skills throughout these uncomfortable scenes. DI Kayli and DS Dave Chaplin are characters that I loved and I cannot wait to find out more about them in the next book. This is one hell of a hard hitting, gritty story that will have you gripped from start to finish which I cannot recommend enough. Giving it 5 well very deserved stars.

I love DI Kayli Bright. She doesn't hide behind a professional veneer, and because of that, you warm to her. When she's hurting (and let's face it, who wouldn't be with what she has to deal with every day), she allows you to see the pain she's in. Even when she's questioning potential witnesses or suspects, she is blunt and direct (even when she probably shouldn't be), but I loved that character flaw in her. The scene with Emma was a particular favourite of mine. As with all M.A. Comley's work, the pages fly by. There's no fluff, no padding in her stories. They are as long as they need to be to get from the beginning to the end and no longer. I really like that because it gives them a pace that, if weighed down with huge amounts of description, would be lost. I can't wait to see what life has in store in the next instalment of DI Kayli Bright.

BLEW ME AWAY!!! Firstly, no matter what this Author writes, I have always loved the Justice Series but I’m afraid the start of this trilogy just blew me away and has gone to the top of my list for my reads of 2017. Even though I was reading this over the Christmas period which is a particularly busy time for some of us, I found myself picking my kindle up at every opportunity because this book is an absolute winner. As this is a trilogy, I’m so excited to know there are another two books waiting to be read and cannot wait for their release. If you like a good thriller, which is fast paced, action packed and will keep you guessing, then buy this straight away. You won’t be disappointed. I’m hoping that MA Comley will decide to turn this trilogy into a series as I’ve fallen in love with the characters.

Firstly some housekeeping... This being the first in a trilogy of books, there will be a certain amount left unresolved at the end. It's to be expected, nature of the beast. That said, this first instalment does end very nicely with the main story contained within concluded very well. Also, as with the majority of books by this author, it does contained the usual bumf you would expect at the end so it does finish a tad early. No criticism, I just find this information handy to know when reaching Firstly some housekeeping... Also, as with the majority of books by this author, it does contained the usual bumf you would expect at the end so it does finish a tad early. No criticism, I just find this information handy to know when reaching the book's conclusion. Right, that's done. DI Kayli Bright is a bit of a rising star in the Force. With a impressive clear-up rate, ably assisted by her impressive and tight knit team, including main side-kick DS Dave Chaplin, she really is going places but her feet are planted solidly on the ground which is really what you need when you consider her latest case involves the death of a young girl, carelessly discarded in the cellar of a derelict house. Once identified, they discover that she had been missing for several days but her missing persons case had ground to a halt. Their investigations begin, as predicted, with her family and then her school. And then the autopsy results come through and what Kayli learns from that is too shocking for words. Thinking now that this might not be an isolated case, they go through the misper reports to find any similar, and are shocked by what they find. Could this death really just be a small piece of a larger, more heinous puzzle and, if so, can Kayli and her team get to the bottom of things before more innocents are harmed? The subject matter in this book is very harrowing and not for the faint hearted, but it is an important story and sadly not as uncommon as it should be. That said, it is treated with enormous respect by the author with any details included for context not sensationalism. I was especially impressed with the portrayal of the Police in this book. Having to deal with such a crime as this whilst also trying to put emotions aside and do a professional job all at the same time as dealing with their own personal stuff to boot. It's a credit to Kayli and the way she runs her team that they all hold each other up in times of need. All this means that they come across as completely real; warts and all in some cases! In Dave, Kayli has an able second. Like her, he is bright and tenacious and the two of them complement each other perfectly. There's the usual trademark Comley banter to be found throughout the book and all the interactions between the very well defined characters always felt totally real, especially the relationship between Kayli and fiance Mark. There's also a healthy dose of secrets, lies and manipulation to be found, again as expected, but the whole thing culminates in an ending that both shocks and satisfies. All in all, a cracking opener to a trilogy that left me hankering for more. Hopefully it will not be long in coming.

The Missing Children I was eagerly anticipating this new book from Ms Comley, the first book in a brand new trilogy and let me tell you, it was worth the wait!! DI Kayli Bright and her team face the case no officers want to face, the discovery of a child’s body and subsequent child abductions; they’re working around the clock to solve these atrocities. Not always an easy read, but handled in a sensitive manner, The Missing Children is a five star read by an author who never fails to deliver. I can’t wait for the next instalment...I’m hooked!

Wow, just wow! This author never fails to blow me away with the original storylines and characters she comes up with. (I should just put that in all of my reviews of her books.) There is something about the writing that I love so much. I think it's the fact that it is all grit and thrill and none of those frilly descriptions and details that I don't need. Too many books, too little time for that stuff, honestly! And this author just gets it. This was a new trilogy by this author and as much as I Wow, just wow! This was a new trilogy by this author and as much as I love all her others, this one is just as good and the characters are so realistically portrayed, it's like I want to call them up and ask them out for coffee. That's when I know I'm hooked, lol! This is a terrible subject matter, yet the more I read, the more I became involved in the investigation of this terrible crime against children. Twists and turns and gasps galore throughout the entire book. What's not to love about this new series. I'm anxious for the next one!

I started this book on a Friday afternoon and finished it by the early hours of Saturday morning. A new Detective trilogy by the talented M A Comely. Once again the characters in the book were so realistic I felt as though I knew them, DI Kayli Bright is on the case of children who are going missing. A highly sensitive subject that is handled with compassion and care. Again a page turner that has you wondering what will happen next, you can't put it down. This author never fails to amaze me with the attention to detail that she puts into all of her books, and this new one is no exception. Getting to know new characters is always a challenge but I really enjoyed how DI Kayli Bright & DS Dave Chaplin worked together & the friendly banter involved. It was a very difficult read at times given the nature of the crime & the vivid descriptions, but sometimes the truth has to be told to make the public awareness come to the fore.
