RATING: 5 STARS 2017; Walter Foster Jr/Quarto Group I loved this picture book series based on Rodgers & Hammerstein's songs from The Sound of Music. It has gorgeous illustrations with the words from the song. It would make a great addition to any book shelf. It is fun to read out loud if you know the movie/musical. I recommend both of these fabulous books. ***I received a complimentary copy of this ebook from the publisher through Edelweiss. The Sound of Music is one of my favourite musicals. As I read this book, I sang the song rather than read the words. My grandson (3 years old) kept stopping me to look at the pictures and talk about the illustrations. My granddaughter (1 year old) was moving to the music and was not happy when I stopped. What a great way to teach these songs to little ones. The illustrations are large, very colourful and happy. I can see myself reading/singing this one over and over to the grandchildren. I can see this book being used in a pre-school or kindergarten classroom when learning about music and the notes. A good addition to a school or classroom library. Okay, A+ concept and 5 stars for any book I can sing to my kid. "Broadway Baby" is also an ace title for this series. But now some critiques: The illustrative style is very cute but after finishing the book I felt like every picture was the same. Happy kids hanging out with a deer and guitar lady on a hill. I also don't think you should say "Sew: A needle pulling thread,"--you should say, "Sol--a needle pulling thread." Do it properly. And finally, is this or is this not a series?? The Broadway Baby series is clearly designed for the toddler market. I discovered them just a bit too late for my kids, but I am confident that a few years ago they would have been perfect and that someone reading this blog post will love them. I must note that these board books are ridiculously expensive. But they will still be a must-have for Broadway moms and dads. I'm hopeful that this is the beginning of an expansive series. This beloved song from The Sound of Music works perfectly in the board book format. The illustrator smartly took the approach of showing us the meaning of the song rather than trying to depict the Von Trapp family or somehow contextualize this scene as part of a larger story. The graphic art is happy, bright, and uncomplicated. A multi-cultural group of children and a guitar-playing teacher gather outside in a meadow, some playing musical instruments, others singing. I love the typographical emphasis on the note names ("DO-RE-MI", etc.). They aren't particularly useful sight words and sounding them out doesn't work well, but they are easy to pick up and may help some kids practice the overall skill of sight word acquisition and following along with a book. --- I review books for children from the perspective of a parent of kids with autism. Exactly the same as the book from the same range, illustrating 'My Favourite Things', this book deserves the same review; I love the idea of these books - well-known musical songs illustrated in a brilliant way. You cannot help but sing these books aloud! The pages are absolutely crammed with colour, with effective use of large white spaces and equally large and clear text. The illustrations are lovely and sweet. You won't be able to help but read this over and over again!

I absolutely LOVE the illustrations in this book! Me and my 3 girls loved this book and for some reason they even liked when I sang along with it! My daughter is currently learning the musical scale in school so she liked seeing it represented this way. The colorful vintage illustrations and musical component are what really set this board book apart from others. Well done!! Thank you, NetGalley for the opportunity to enjoy this book with my children in exchange for an honest review.

I love The Sound of Music and this song so I was curious to see what this book was about. It amused me that as much as I've heard the song, I couldn't for the life of me remember the tune to some parts. Includes information about Rodgers and Hammerstein and the musical inspiration.

I thought that the concept of this book was brilliant! Its such a fun little book that can help young kids join in with one of the favourite songs from the Sound of Music film - loved the images too! 4 stars

Art is lovely, and I especially like the two spreads that have sheet music—fun way to introduce baby to that concept. However, at least in our copy, there’s a line of the song missing: re, a drop of golden sun. Hence losing a star in the rating.

I actually sang this as I "read" it! It was lovely. The illustrations are beautiful and it's such a good song!

Another success. A different illustrator than My Favorite things, but still perfectly fun pictures to match the lyrics. I hope they do more songs that just ones from the Sound of Music.

Brightly colored illustrations, and a good division of text on each page to allow for frequent page turns as you sing the song. I think I need to purchase a copy, that's how much I enjoyed this.

My middle daughter (the two-year-old) loves books that can be sung, so I knew she would enjoy these Broadway Baby board books. I was really impressed myself by how well the illustrations brought the songs to life even for kids who don't yet know The Sound of Music. Of the two, Do Re Mi is my favorite, but both have wonderfully bright illustrations in bold colors and remain true to the spirit of the original songs without spoiling the movie.
