The recommendations for this book were many. It does a good job of putting everything on the syllabus at one place. Very systematic and it is a fun read. But, it is not free of flaws. Especially I found many mistakes in the north east section (including Assam ) and the author has even left out many aspects of this transmission region while discussing some topics. And things like that make me question if there is some mistakes in the topics of other places too, or has he left out information on t The recommendations for this book were many. Buy the book for the topics and syllabus but please do some research yourself and don't follow this book blindly. I wouldn't advice against buying it. It is useful.

I got around to this book because it is recommended for UPSC preparation(the exam to get into the Indian Civil Services) and decided to go ahead with it for it dealt with a topic that is eternal and endlessly interesting. It is impossible to remember and appreciate what the book showcases because of this and if you have no plans to attempt the exam, the book turns into a daunting read.

This is not a scholactic book rather purely meant for competitive purpose. This is just a culmination of materials and content from various sources into one. This has less to do with the knowledge addition by the author himself. He has just done an assemblance of diverse contents into one place. What struck me was the poor way an interesting portion 'Art & Culture' was presented. It seemed like reading a guide rather than a fun learn.
