Too short to adapt any of the real ND books and not a fan of the art. The story was too simple and full of cheese. Stick to the books.

Another fun and fast-paced story. Cousin George is a big fan of flashy stage magician Dan Deville, and drags Nancy and Bess to a performance. Nancy is a bit of a party pooper until Dan's assistant vanishes onstage—and doesn't reappear. Dan does a good job of covering, but Nancy and her cousins eventually convince him to let them track the assistant down. This book takes the philosophy and terminology of magic presented in The Prestige at face value; I find that amusing since I've seen an interview with Christopher Priest where he admitted that he made it all up ;-). (To be fair, the interview suggests that at least some magicians have adopted the terminology.) (Finished 2009-09-30 0:33 EDT)

George, Nancy’s best friend, is a fan of magic. To her delight, a famous magician, Dan Deville is in River Heights. George wants to attend his show. Nancy doesn’t like magic, but decides to attend anyway. When Dan ends his show with making his assistant disappear, the audience is stunned when he doesn’t make her REAPPEAR! Not one to run from a mystery, Nancy is on the case to learn about the magician’s tricks in order to find the missing assistant. Nancy and the girls see a stage magician perform and Nancy is, of course, noting how the tricks are done. One trick goes awry when the female assistant actually disappears. Nancy knows that the magician and his assistant have argued so she checks things out and nearly gets eaten by a huge snake. The story revolves around the magician's relationship to the assistant and there's no actual crime here. Overall, it's the weakest story in the manga series so far. Again, Ms. Drew is far more of a single-minded air head than her original character personality that was established in the main series. I guess with a new generation comes the flaws in it. Putting all character traits aside, the plot of this one was very sweet and had a nice character interaction between everyone. And the ending was something that could warm the hearts of everyone in love.

Still weirded out by the seeming role reversal between Bess and George, and Ned seems more long-suffering than usual (Nancy's advice to Tina, btw, verges on the terrible, never mind self-serving) but otherwise, a swift, amusing installment of the series. Fun, super quick read. Mystery was a bit non-existent, and I wasn't a huge fan of the layout. Too small margins in library binding with inconsistent focal points made it a bit difficult for me to enjoy the visuals. Fun, super quick read. OK for a one time read, not exciting. Jan 2014. Nancy does some really stupid and illegal things such as breaking and entering.

Nice book, weird storyline. If you believe in magic though, don't read it it will ruin your life. Nice book, weird storyline. If you believe in magic though, don't read it it will ruin your life.
