Someone certainly wanted Bea to eat humble pie, and the retreat offers no shortage of unsavory characters, including Ella Mae’s longtime nemesis, Loralyn Gaynor. Ella Mae definitely doesn’t need magic to tell her she must find the killer before someone else gets panned.

Beatrice Burbank, the president of the elite Camellia Club, wants Ella Mae to create some new recipes for the club and to teach and bake at the group's annual retreat which will be held at Lake Havenwood. Ella Mae accepts, despite Reba's warnings. Then before the event is held, Bea turns up dead in the lake. Leaving Ella Mae wondering who killed her and why? What I Liked: *After the thrilling events of the last book, A Breach of Crust takes a step back and utilizes a quieter approach. This time, the story isn't on a global scale, and there aren't dire consequences for magical kind at stake. Instead, it is a simple mystery that has some surprises. Even though this book wasn't quite as exciting as the last, it was still a good solid read. *The overall mystery was interesting, and I especially liked how it featured a Greek myth. I wasn't familiar with the Greek story, and I liked uncovering it, and seeing it fit into the story. One thing I love about this series is that it utilizes all kinds of legends and mythology. Have I told you how much I love Reba? I can't get enough of this fierce, sassy, funny, licorice loving, loyal and sex craved old gal. She makes me giggle with her antics. I loved that we got a good heaping dose of Reba in this one. *I liked the whole story line featuring Opal Gaynor. I was thrilled with her change of heart, and I admired her courage and altruistic sacrifice. The romance has been a sticking point in the series for me. Thankfully, the romance finally seems to be settled out in this one. I am so pleased to see the way it worked out, and I have my fingers crossed that the romantic drama is done. *I am a huge fan of the the delicious food in the books. This time around, Ella Mae is working to create gluten free pies and a Key Lime Pie for the lactose intolerant. I love reading the descriptions of all the yummy treats, I only wish I could taste them. Since I can't reach into my book and taste the pies, I can do the next best thing, try making them at home. In this installment, there are more tasty pie recipes. This time you can try to bake: Black Bottom Peanut Butter Pie, Lactose Free Key Lime Pie, Blackberry Icebox Pie and Tomato Pie with a Cheddar Crust. Yum! *The ending was satisfactory in that it concluded the main mystery. I also appreciated the way things ended up with the romance. I am hopeful that there are still more books in the works. And The Not So Much: *I am still not liking the whole mean girl drama that continues with Loralyn. It is getting old. I wish that story line would settle out once and for all. It is getting stale. *I have been eagerly watching some secondary romances hoping they will unfold, but I was disappointed that none of them really blossomed. I was especially disappointed in the relationship that happened with Ella Mae's mother. It was left completely hanging. I hope some of these relationships are followed up on in further books. I want to see what happens with Jenny, Finn, Ella Mae's Mom and Aunt Dee. *Even though the mystery was entertaining and interesting, I had it figured out early on who the culprit was despite the obvious attempts to make it look like someone else. *I missed the pie making magic. I hope that it comes back. Breach of Crust was another entertaining installment in the Charmed Pie Shoppe Mysteries. This time around, the mystery borrows from an old Greek mythological story. I love that this series continues to incorporate old legends and lore, blended with magic and delicious food. If you want something unique in the cozy genre, this is the series to try as it is a bit of paranormal with cozy. I am hoping there are more books to come in the series, as at the time of this review there is nothing posted about a sixth book. I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own, and I was not compensated for this review. [email protected] Day Ramblings.

Sob!!!! I sped-listened to the last two books in this series and now I'm devastated that it's over. Love the magical world building, the quirky characters, the spunky terrier and the happily ever after. And the mystery is fabulous too! I loved this book in the pie shoppe series. This one was full of twists and turns and I was left guessing until the very end. Ms. Adams is such a talented writer that I was drawn into the story from the very first page. The inner workings of a magical world, disastrous and cunning mother-daughter relationships and so much more made this book very hard to put down. I have loved this series from the inception. The fifth of the series, BREACH OF CRUST is nothing short of wonderful. Her relationship with Hugh Dylan has changed and become more serious, more real, and even the enemies she has encountered in the past are different. Luckily, Ella’s mother and aunts are there to provide their usual special support. Ms. Adams has created a plot with twists and turns, and I did not see the solution until she was ready to reveal it. And, as always, the recipes are delicious. I received this book from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Ella Mae LeFaye might have lost her magical powers, but that hasn't stopped her from doing what she loves - baking. Bea Burbank is the president of the Camelia Club and asks Ella Mae to be one of the chefs to participate in a retreat that will teach club members to bake creations for their centennial dessert cookbook. Ella Mae is hesitant to commit, but finally decides to once she learns that proceeds will help a young lady who reminds her of one of her beloved aunts. It will also give her a chance to add new pies to her menu that would please her customers with dietary restrictions. Ella Mae signs her contact and takes it over to Bea only to find her body floating in Lake Havenwood. There's definitely a few suspicions surrounding the Camelia Club as well as the return of a nemesis that will keep Ella Mae busy searching for clues. I love this series and was definitely anxious to read this book - especially with how the last one ended. However, I have to admit that it was missing a few elements that I've come to love. Amongst the characters, I missed more interaction with the aunts. A few times they were mentioned and some made apperances, but they weren't included in any main scenes. I missed having the bakery as a backdrop too. Again, they were there a few times, but most of the baking was just Ella Mae playing around in the kitchen and creating special dietary restricted pies after hours . I hope her magic returns because I love reading how she incorporates that into her baking. Last, I missed visits to the Grove. In past books, it has been such a magical and enchanting place to drop in on, but the closest we got to it this time was a wonderful description. I know the Clover Queen is not able to enter it anymore, but I definitely longed for a few scenes there. I wish there had been a couple of follow ups too. The pie that Ella Mae baked for the Crafting Wishes Foundation and the lady with amnesia. I would have loved to have seen if she had a reaction to it. I also would have liked to know what happened between Adelaide and Henry. He was a great addition to the story and I hope he returns!! With all that said, it wasn't a bad book. Reba was in fine form and had me giggling with her crazy antics. She is such a perfect side kick!!! I loved watching Ella Mae and Hugh reconnect. That ending. That was a sweet ending!!!!! Even if it was bittersweet, I enjoyed reading about Opal and the holistic methods she used to deal with her illness. You better believe that I googled Qigong. I liked the extra, new characters that were brought in to help research mythology and a bit more of the Arthurian/Morgan LaFaye connections. It was interesting watching Ella Mae substitute ingredients and come up with pies that were gluten/dairy free. My husband is lactose intolerant so I connected with that scenario. Something that occurred towards the end definitely gave me hope that a bit more magic will be returning to Sweet Briar.

She is organizing their annual retreat. They are asking three different dessert chefs to teach the members recipes they can use in their latest fundraising cookbook (for scholarships and to help a young woman who was burned with her surgeries). Ella Mae, of course, agrees to help. The retreat will be held Havenwood so it is no trouble for Ella Mae. Ella Mae is also working to help Opal Garner. Opal is dying of cancer and she wants to see her daughter, Loralyn before she dies. Loralyn fled town and no one has seen her (or heard from her). She also happens to be Ella Mae’s enemy. Ella Mae, though, cannot refuse to help a dying woman. To help extend Opal’s life (or heal her), Ella Mae and friends start looking for a magical object. Will she be able to find one in time? Ella Mae is on her dock late at night and notices someone in the water. She dives in and finds the body of Bea Burbank. It turns out that their research for a magical object leads them right back to the Camellia Club (and want to guess what else Ella Mae finds). Ella Mae can solve Bea’s murder, find a magical object, and help Opal at the same time! Breach of Crust was a delight to read. I enjoyed every moment of this book, and I really did not want it to end. In order to understand what is going on in Breach of Crust, you do need to read the other books in The Charmed Pie Shoppe Mystery series (or you will be lost). Breach of Crust is well-written (as usual), has charming characters, romance (not just between Hugh and Ella Mae), humor, and some magic. Ellery Adams crafted an enchanting tale with Breach of Crust. I give Breach of Crust 5 out of 5 stars (which you know I rarely do). The ending in this novel will leave you smiling. I received a complimentary copy of Breach of Crust from NetGalley in exchange for an honest evaluation of the novel.

Bea Burbank is the president of The Camellia Club from Sweet Briar, GA, a philanthropic organization of high society women and their daughters. Every ten years the club prints up a cookbook for their annual retreat. This year's retreat will he held shortly and will be held at the Lake Havenwood Resort. In addition, the group has two other chefs/bakers coming in to show off their skills. That evening, after sharing this news with her mother, Ella Mae and her dog, Chewy, go for a walk along the shore of Havenwood Lake where she finds the lifeless body of Burbank floating in the lake. Ella Mae, Reba and her aunts do some research on the club and are able to get information that might connect the group to some apples that have extremely powerful magic powers. In addition, Opal Gaynor, whose family had been feuding with Ella Mae's for years, have recently put their differences aside. All except for Ella Mae's nemesis and Opal's daughter, Loralyn. Opal informs Ella Mae that she has cancer and has a short time to live. She asks Ella Mae's to find her daughter before she dies, so they can reconcile. Ella Mae has mixed emotions with this request, but once she learns that Loarlyn has changed her name and joined The Camellia Club and might be involved wanting to get control of the magical apples, Ella Mae feels compelled to search for Loralyn and whoever might have killed Bea. Ellery Adams has provided the reader with another wonderfully told story with a great cast of believable characters. Delicious recipes are also included with the book. Definitely, will be watching for the next book in the series.

Ella Mae weathered quite a storm in the previous book and she's determined to have a bit of normalcy in her life. When she's approached to teach her pie baking secrets to a group of wealthy socialites, Ella Mae accepts as a way to test her new recipes. What she didn't expect was to run into her longtime nemesis, Loralyn. Breach of Crust had no shortage of murder or intrigue, but it was the family connection running through the book that really made it a hit for me. The LeFaye women love each other so much and it is always nice to see characters support each other unconditionally. Ella and Hugh made some huge strides in this book as well and it finally felt like they really fit together. I was (pleasantly) surprised by Opal Gaynor and the way she developed in this book. She has probably changed the most throughout the series and it was nice to see her finally get a way to atone for her past. There were a lot of bombshells dropped and loose ends tied up in Breach of Crust, but I really hope this isn't the last book in the series. These quirky characters charm the reader with their approach to life, curious adventures, and delivery of justice. As usual, Adams pushes awesome, entertaining boundaries and continues to create excellent stories time after time!

As always, Ellery Adams takes you on an enchanted trip. This book did not disappoint. Ella Mae's pie shop is the focus of a southern organization called the Camellia Club for their retreat. She finds murder and lots of snobs hiding their secret agendas. Ella Mae and Hugh are finding their love even without magic. Many great recipes in this book also. I can't wait for the next book. I received this book before the publishing date in exchange for an honest review. To be honest this isn't my favorite series by Ellery Adams, but I love this installment in the Charmed Pie Shop series. Some of the loose ends from the last book are tied up brilliantly! The mystery in this is intriguing and it's great to back with this loving, incredibly gifted family. It was a fun read! Despite losing her magic, Ella Mae's pie shop is still a huge draw in Havenwood. Her reputation brings Beatrice Burbank to the shop. Bea is the president of the Camellia Club, a group of philanthropic, wealthy women from Sweet Briar. Bea wants Ella to teach the Camellias to make pies as part of their plan to produce a fundraising dessert cookbook. Ella Mae readily agrees, but when she finds Beatrice floating in Lake Havenwood, the sweet deal turns sinister. Ella Mae readily agrees, but when she finds Beatrice floating in Lake Havenwood, the sweet deal turns sinister. Bea's death is ruled an accident, but Ella Mae doesn't believe it, and neither does Bea's daughter, Liz. After discovering that her nemesis, Loralyn Gaynor, has thrown her lot in with the Camellias, Ella is even more suspicious. When a second Camellia is murdered, it's up to Ella Mae to find out what's going on. In addition to investigating two murders, Ella is asked by Opal Gaynor to arrange for a meeting between her and her daughter, Loralyn. Opal has been diagnosed with a terminal illness, and she wants to reconcile with Loralyn before she passes away. Unfortunately for Ella Mae, solving the murders may be simpler than turning Loralyn's cold heart. A lot of depth to this story, what with two, over-arching story lines going on. The plot moved along quickly, and it was woven throughout with both history and mythology.

My tendency to read books from various mystery series fairly regularly during this pandemic's self-quarantine continues (although there have been a few other books in between) - and it will go on as long as the plots are compelling and they do not reek with blood & gore. I want my mind to be occupied with storytelling, taking me away from all the worries that the times manifest. BREACH OF CRUST, #5 novel in the "A Charmed Pie Shoppe Mystery" series by Ellery Adams, does that quite well. BREACH OF CRUST, #5 novel in the "A Charmed Pie Shoppe Mystery" series by Ellery Adams, does that quite well. As usual there's magic afloat, delicious pies baked, well-placed humor amidst dangerous happenings, and Ella Mae LeFaye is wondering what's she's gotten herself involved in this time... What she knows is that there's been a murder and her beloved village of Havenwood could be the target for horrendous destruction unless she can find and destroy the killer. The rest she has to figure out. Ellery Adams writes excellent mysteries, and this one is no exception. As usual with this series, the reader can find a few recipes at the back of the book. I'm thinking about making the "Charmed Black Bottom Peanut Butter Piet" in the near future!

Ella Mae is back, this time to teach classes at a fancy shmancy women's club annual retreat. Thing is, she's been tasked with finding Loralyn so that Opal can ask her forgiveness before she dies of cancer...and Loralyn happens to be a member of that club. A body shows up in the lake, and while it's ruled an accident, Ella Mae believes there's more to it. As the mystery unfolds, she discovers a myth about three golden apples. But then, another presidential candidate turns up dead. Ella Mae will show up at the last minute and almost save the day as we keep trying to figure out which way Loralyn will fall - honorable or evil.

I really enjoyed this book and the entire series. The characters were enjoyable (Reba may have been my favorite.) I think this must be the End of the series, and it ended well. The magic component was not too far-fetched as to make it unenjoyablrpe, most just talents that were magnified by a person being magical. I will definitely read more by this author. However, I do believe that there was one mistake when Ella Mae and Hugh were looking for pictures of the women who were left out of the Camellia book. At first, they said it was the Lee's, but then they changed it to Cora and Meg, even though they had mentioned seeing them earlier. Just a slip, I believe, that should have been caught in editing.

This addition to the Charmed Pie Shoppe series has so many twists and turns you aren't sure how it is going to end up. It is quite interesting how the author plotted the story out and makes you want more. Since this book was written in 2016 and it is now 2019, it is possible that this is the last book in the series which is very sad. I say that with a bit of irony since this isn't my usual type of series, but it has well fleshed out characters and interesting plots to keep you intrigued and ente This addition to the Charmed Pie Shoppe series has so many twists and turns you aren't sure how it is going to end up. This installment disgusted me. It was obvious the author was sick of this series too. I knew when Ellie Mae forfeited her powers in the last installment the series would soon end. First of all, a baker with no talent outwits an alleged, skilled, police force whining all the time. I didn't have a problem with her having some doubts. That was expected. However, did she have to die to see the antagonist of two installments,is indeed a murderer? I will give the author credit for some creative plot t This installment disgusted me. Suffice it to say, I hope this is the end of this series. I just can't take anymore.
