I found this book at the library with a fantasy label on it. Really wouldn't classify this as a fantasy, more like pretty straight forward action packed horror story. And I seem to be the first person to rate and review this one on GR, quite an honor. The jacket says that this book was adapted from a screenplay and it does in fact read like a movie, in a good way. Although the last 100 pages are pretty much non stop boom boom action, the rest of the book took time to develop some characters, int I found this book at the library with a fantasy label on it. Although the last 100 pages are pretty much non stop boom boom action, the rest of the book took time to develop some characters, introduce a setting (pretty creepy, small town Alaska during a snow storm), create very realistic dialogue and excellent pacing. Particularly good were the vivid (cinematically so) descriptions, very strong opening and apt ending, opening for a sequel. Recommended.

Not bad, but not spectacular either. A quick little horror novel that's a bit like Stephen King, but without a lot of character development. Still enjoyed it though. --Leisa Not bad, but not spectacular either. A quick little horror novel that's a bit like Stephen King, but without a lot of character development. Jessica Walters (daughter), told Ruth Walters (wife/mother), & Billy Walters (husband/father) there was a woman outside the house. Billy found Petra unresponsive, cold/shivering. What deep dark secrets does she hold? What must Bishop Kane do? The creature roared as it came through the window. Broken glass was everywhere. Violet, & Kevin hid in the tub upstairs. Who will live & who will die? I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one. A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written paranormal book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a huge set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great paranormal movie, or better yet a mini TV series. It was just OK, & not my normal read so I will only rate it at 4/5 stars. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. Sleepers Awake is a good straight to the point action and horror book. I think the concept of ghosts hunting down evil spirits is so creative. I also like the way the book is formatted. There are a lot of exciting moments, but there’s also moments where the characters do and face normal things, making the book feel more real and unexaggerated. For example, in the end of chapter 5 and the beginning of 6, there is a family discussing that a relative is picking their son up and he complains about Sleepers Awake is a good straight to the point action and horror book. McNulty also writes his book so that the reader gradually learns what is going on through the story, I think it is great to keep the reader in check. He also demonstrates dramatic irony because the reader knows who the Zijin, and the people working with them, are before the some characters do. One of the conflicts, I think, is really compelling because it is about Bishop being at war with what is right and his personal feelings. Personally, I like the ending a lot, I would recommend this book to people who love the idea of people fighting demons or evil spirits. It’s a good book but it was a bit tedious to me.

I got this book free from Voracious Readers for an honest review. This was a weird book. I spent the first half of the book trying to figure out what was happening. I spent the second half of the book hoping beyond hope that what I thought was going to happen didn't happen. I also spent the second half trying to figure out if I liked this book. Turns out I did. I wasn't sure if I even would want to continue reading the rest of the series when I finished this book. By the time I read the last sentence I realized that yes I did enjoy the book and I'm curious enough to look into reading the rest of the series as I'm able to.

This book was really good. It’s got a lot of action. The characters are well developed and so is the town. You really get a good picture of the villains and the town. The villains are pretty original too. It’s gruesome at times and heartbreaking at others. It’s got everything a good horror story should have!

This was a very slow read for me. Took several starts and stops to get 'into' it. While it did provide some suspense, I wouldn't call it a thriller. It reminds me of an R rated movie that was cobbled into a G. Too much lull and not enough sweat and rapid heart beat in the characters. I hate to leave a bad review so I'll stop here. A very different read I enjoyed this book immensely. The bad guys in the story were very imaginative. Gruesomly descriptive. I highly recommend. Could not put down
