The Plan Cookbook is designed to take the recipes in The Plan and The Metabolism Plan one step further. It gives the basic recipes found in both of those books and adds many more which fall into the "friendlier" inflammation category. You still have to do your work. These recipes may be friendly for many, but you may be that person who reacts to eggs or all-purpose flour. You will need to make adjustment. But then, you will always have to make adjustments. I’m always on the lookout for great, new cookbooks. When I had the opportunity to snatch this one up, I did so without having read the original book. Within the first few pages, I wanted to. The idea behind “The Plan” was absolutely fascinating, as I have actually experienced immune response reactions to foods before. My husband, as well, has made numerous comments relating how he felt, physically, directly to what he had eaten and tends to adjust his diet accordingly. However, “The Plan” is definitely not a one-size-fits-all system. You have to put in actual effort to find the right way of eating, but the recipes provided in this book definitely give you a nice, solid place to start. It’s motto, “rotate or react”, is clear, as the sheer variety of ingredients in the included recipes makes it so easy to keep your meal times interesting. What’s even better is the ingredients are mostly things you would find in your typical kitchen, and doesn’t require the purchasing of too many oddball or bizarre items that might not be available locally. That is probably one of the most appealing features of this book. If I had to hunt down natural food stores or order a bunch of stuff from online, it’d be much more difficult to even attempt this. Included is their recommended 3-day “cleanse”, a chance to allow your body to slip back into equilibrium; to heal and to balance, with the requisite warnings of some of the symptoms you may experience while detoxing. But, the cleanse is a cleanse with real food. Hallelujah! I tried to a juice cleanse once. Worst idea of my life. Having this “cleanse” included is nice, as those who may not ordinarily stick through an entire program can still get off on the right food, and then pick and choose from the cookbook to continue without having to adhere to a particular schedule. I am skeptical of the claim about the number of calories you take in not making any kind of a difference or not mattering. One has to wonder what happens to the calories that you take in that don’t end up getting burned off – there’s no explanation even attempted for this, so it leaves me wondering a bit on the actual science of this plan, The idea of “reactive” foods definitely makes sense, though. I ended up buying the original book before finishing going through the recipes in the cookbook. I, myself, have been having some very oddball issues with weight, food and exercise lately and really want to put this whole idea to the test. Once I go through the plan outlined in The Plan, I’ll include my results with that review.

I started reading the Plan at my local Barnes and Noble. I was quite tempted to buy it and give it a try, though I had only gotten to chapter 4. But, $16 seemed like a lot for the book. But, then lo and behold - I received this book through first reads giveaways! I didn't remember having signed up to win it, but there you have it. Anyway, I was thrilled! Yeah, I can start the plan. I quickly read through the book and into the Cleanse - Got set up to begin, purchasing the ingredients that I didn't already have. As I started day 1, I read further to see what I do after the three day cleanse. Nothing! I know there is more, but this book doesn't even mention it. Not a basic outline, nothing. Great. Now I have to go and get the other book if I want to continue. I kind of feel like had I purchased this book, I would have felt truly scammed. Like, Yeah! YOu started something great for yourself. Here is the first step and then .... Oh, you have to go buy the other book to learn the rest. That is why I gave it 3 stars, that and some of the recipes are quite lengthy. What frustrated me most was I would look up one particular recipe and see that I had to go to another recipe and make that first because it was an ingredient in this particular recipe. But, then, the second necessary recipe also had another recipe requried to make one of those ingredients. I just don't have that much time to spend in the kitchen. I think this idea and approach is very intriguing and I am giving it a try, but I still have some issues with the book.

Everyone's bodies are different. Yet we each hear the same thing - eat oatmeal, eat breakfast, drink 8 glasses of water. The next section is detailed instructions and menus for the 3-day food detox. The rest of the book has all of the recipes that are to be used after the detox. Included are quite a few beautiful photographs of some of the recipes in the book. I've read quite a few weight loss and cookbooks. This one was impressive. Not only did his explanations of how "the plan" works make sense, but his instructions are clear and concise. The recipes are simple and easy to implement. Some of the ingredients are going to be a bit more difficult to get in my small town, but hopefully that won't be a problem for most people. My only complaint would be the type of materiel used for the pages makes it difficult to actually use the book while cooking. I had to make copies of the pages since the ones in the book are thin and more like newspaper. I received this book free of charge from Goodreads in exchange for my honest review.

For followers of "The Plan," Recitas offers a number of tempting recipes like Butternut Squash Souffle, Chicken with Fennel-Apple Salad and Almond Grabbers that help sensitive eaters avoid "reactive" foods both during and after their testing phase. Don't expect to be able to follow the author's 20 days of food testing without consulting "The Plan: Eliminate the Surprising "Healthy" Foods That Are Making You Fat--and Lose Weight Fast".

I received this free via freebie from a give away =) I actually loved the recipes in here. Well, the 4 that I have tried. However my kids will not even try them. That alone is the reason why I did not grade this book as 5 stars. For my household this would be a great addiction if I was only cooking for myself. Just not idea when I have to cook more than one meal to feed everyone.

The carrot - ginger soup recipe is revised from the The Plan, and this is a good thing! It contains exact measurements this time! I would suggest cutting the water down at least by 3/4 gallon of water. It was far much like broth rather than soup when the full amount of water is used. This soup was very helpful.

I looked forward to having this cookbook on hand to help me plan my meals. Once again, some of the recipes need tweaking. There are some new recipes in here that weren't in the first book. Colorful photos of some of the dishes is helpful as a visual reference.
