If given my horror in doses of short story collections you could even say that my appetite becomes one of a glutton. In recent times I have to say that my favorite chef that continues to serve up the dishes that I crave the most is Matt Shaw. Tastes of Horror delivers a wide selection of a la carte appetizers sure to please the palette of connoisseurs of terror. For those of you that like to peruse the menu prior to booking a reservation, I have included a list of the treats in store for you. Smile is a tale of clowns on a mission to bring 'happiness' to all the children. Buried is a short about a brother and sister that have to 'uncover' what their kidnappers really did. Consumed is a dish best served raw and preferably while still breathing. The 8th is a short that I have previously reviewed as it was released independently prior to becoming part of this collection. The Cabin is a story of how one man's childhood memories of times with his father can come back to haunt his entire family. Happy Ever After is about the interpretation of love and how one goes about expressing it. Matt also includes one last tidbit that he claims to have written after a stay in the hospital. As far as desserts go, I could've used something to help wash the taste of this one down. This being my only complaint for an otherwise delightful evening sampling the above mentioned treats. Bon Appetit!

Smile - "Click.  Keep on smiling..... and the whole world.... smiles.... with you........" O-God!!! No please No!! I say forever No to Fu***ng CLOWN! God Clown world's worst thing of creation by human being ever. The more you ger to know about them the more you will regret it... This short fiction another Gem of Matt Shaw. I say forever No to Fu***ng CLOWN! God Clown world's worst thing of creation by human being ever. The more you ger to know about them the more you will regret it... This short fiction another Gem of Matt Shaw. I just freaked out while reading it. Though yeah I can agree with you if someone say there's not that much to get scared of. But when you put a Clown in a story with giving it the full power to control the tale, well I hope you got the answer about how it would be like to read or experience the act of them... Alex lost his little brother Lewis in the shopping mall and the fact is Lewis got ADHD problem with himself and this made the situation far more worse. Alex's Mom tired of her full day job needed badly her free time to relax herself. But after losing Lewis and when she finally get the news like any morher she too freaked out, hurriedly she visit the shopping mall and demand the answer where her missing child is and scolding security guards who'd been in charge at that time in there. Checking the security camera from that exact area not only Alex's mom but it seems there's more childrens being missing from that location. As the tension grew and intensified Alex didn't understand what or when the situation got wrong. But when they double checked the security camera again suddenly Alex found something that changed all the fact of their checking of those footage from security cameras... Full of tension and Creepiest horror short fiction for me and by Matt Shaw... Buried - Absolutely mind blowing, head spinning novella by Matt Shaw. A master class psychological horror thriller to read. For me it came out for surprise. It's take me quite a while to understand the main theme of it but while reading the end it got all cleared... It's Todd's 21st birthday buy waking up he find himself buried in a box. Bewildered and couldn't grasp the situation he became hectic. He also hallucinate his sister Kayla in there and lot of things or his past life that some of those are he maybe wants to regret. I actually liked the character that portrait Todd's sister Kayla. But the ending of her to me I find it heartbreaking. Didn't see that coming, at least I thought Kayla would made thr end too... The bottom fact about this tale is thst it will certainly make you feel dizzy. As for me I just couldn't help myself but continue my reading till the last page. I felt like I was experience the same fate as if it's happening with me too, in Live telecast event. Must read book from the author who knows how to play with human mind gradually but more accurately. Heck of a read that was... Consumed - Sloppy beginning of the tale and honestly didn't enjoyed it much. Especially that 1st half, just couldn't go into the story... Six friends accepts help from a complete stranger and by going to this strangesr's home they found his family was too friendly to them. What I want to say is the book obviously contains total deep gore horror of itself but it was predictable from the beginning. I could see where the book is going and how the gore horror scenery would take place through those events. Though of course this book not for everyone, it contains very disturbing gore events as I already mentioned. So that's it and didn't like the end either, at least that negative character should have given the punish he deserved... 3 from me... The 8th - One of the best psychological horror I ever read in my life. You have to admit with this one Matt Shaw did a hell of a job... There's nothing more disrespectful to lead a life under the mercy of total bully. It's a life of shame and disgrace. No bullies should be unpunished for what they do to weak people. They better ready for their act or say consequences. The sick people like these bullies should be punished or say terminated from this earth... That bullied boy (author didn't mentioned his name in here) ready to take revenge against those peoples who's been responsible to make his life hell. There's no way he will be back down this time. He gonna do thiw for him and for his friend David too, who by the time like him get bullied from those sick minded cowards. Knowing and experiencing all of this shit the prime character, the victim cease the classroom all by himself and pointed his hazardous looking gun toward with malicious hatred. What happened after that was nightmare to them, to those bully person. I felt joy when that bully girl Rebecca got what she exactly deserves of herself and specially that sick bustard Piers who the prime bully man, think himself the alpha of his so called fu***ng gang. Well obviously I like the fate of he got the price against what he done. But for that prime character who was taking charge against these maniac I felt really sorry for me the way it ended all. But the moral thing of this short fiction no matter what you should never back down but keep your head straight and fight those bullies. Never surrender, if you can't find help but don't let them put you down, just Don't, NEVER... The Cabin - What happened? I mean what the fu*k just happened in the middle of this short fiction? This could be my hell of an another freaking favourite horror tale by Matt Shaw. But the disentangle scene make it all frustrating for me... That was very promising start, Craig father of Ava and Jamie and his wife Susan he was making a trip to The Cabin, where he was planning for finish his latest novel. But the fact gone all wrong when in the shop he tried to prevent a murderous act but failed. And after that somehow two police man showed up Sheriff actually and they picked him up and take him to the station. Well, that's it. Nothing else after that but all of a sudden we found Craig in the cabin waiting for that teenage boy to take the revenge. I mean what the hell really? Did I miss something or what? I don't know. All I can say is that it seems theres a deleted scene from the book or the author didn't care about that part and put the main character directly to the place in where he exactly wanted. Irritating, frustrating that was and apart from that fact the ending did surprised me deep. Have to admit didn't see that coming at least not for that little character. What we have in the 2nd part of this tale series? I think I have to check that out too to get the answer for myself... Happy Ever After - Only Matt Shaw with his story how to mess up with your brain, completely drain out your all mental energy and left you rag in to floor. Sickening feel, depressing read... I don't know exactly from where I should start with my review of this book. Don't know if I ever could continue myself to read that sick minded psyco Peter's book series. Peter kidnapped a girl named Vanessa who happened to work in a bank. One day while she was coming out of a nightclub Peter grabs her from behind and take to his place, kept her hostage to him. What do he wants from her? Love, yeah love that's what he want. So, yes it revealed by then he was a psychopath... What lead after then would torment your mind. For me the story exhausted me mentally, I couldn't tolerate the site of Peter. Well that's not all the problem. I just couldn't stand the disrespectful side of Vanessa, the fact is Peter always got the upper hand from her. There's more fact ro reveal but I wouldn't do that as it would spoil the whole story... Last but not least I totally regret the ending, at the same time (don't mistake to see it as double standard) like the way the story turned completely different way to the end. No more writing, giving it 3 from my side... The Ward - Matthew Shaw (Most probably the author referring himself) find himself in the jospital bed. While a nurse came and take his blood pressure, the story starts from then... It's just extra short story from collection of talse from his 'Tastes of Horror' book. In the tale Matthew see himself almost at the last stage of his life while lying in the hospital bed. Becoming see the past and the regretful things he had done to his closest one including his parents and his ex wife. Seeing unexplainable entities around him there's no clear answer for him about what's really going on. The ending was really surprising and though he understood by then the value of life, it was already too late. As the question remain abruptly did he survive at last?...

Not Bad The author states that this collection might not please all readers with all the stories but there should be something to please most horror fans. He was correct in my case. I found the book to be well worth my time. Some really twisted characters and tales. Have fun with this one.

Tastes of horror I really liked this book because the name of the book was exactly what was inside. These stories were an assortment of different levels of fear and spookiness and my favorite was The 8th to me that was a very real horror story that happens quite frequently. I would recommend this book to any reader who likes short stories

I do like the way Matt takes every day experiences and puts his horror twist to them. Long may he continue!

This is a collection of 7 stories from Matt Shaw. As the title suggests they are of varying tastes from horrors of the mind to the totally gory s*** that you can't read while eating. Brilliant stuff from one of the best British horror writers around in my humble opinion. This review was written before I started to take my reviewing seriously. I would need to re-read the book to give it a serious, detailed and fair review so the above review was what I posted at the time.

Breathless I got this book on a whim, hoping for some casual trashy horror. But wow. Oh wow. It's been a while since I've read a book where I've been eager to get back to it after dealing with daily nuisances such as work or sleep. A beautiful writer I'm very happy to have found. Not only is his weird and twisted imagination and horrific stories that kept me hooked but simply how well he writes. Cant wait to read more.

As can be expected, I did not like all of the stories in this collection. Although I love horror, I'm a bit squeamish when it comes to gore and very graphic horror. With this said, I still enjoyed most of this book. There were some really nice short stories in these pages. It's been a few days since I finished the book and I find myself thinking still of Peter and Vanessa, and of the scary clowns in "Smile". Good job in scaring me Mr. Shaw, good job indeed.

I absolutely loved Rotten Dead Fucks so was excited to see this wee collection of Matt Shaw stories. Unfortunately it wasn't as good. The stories weren't too bad but the pacing was all wrong. Still, it's good to see how far he's come and I look forward to reading more from this author in the future. I recommend trying one of his other books first instead of this one.

Wonderfully creepy I have just read my first book by Matt Shaw, but definitely not my last. Each of the short stories in this book was captivating and made it a little hard to turn out the lights each night. I anxiously await the start of Mr. Shaw's next book that I will choose to read!

The ward This story really hit home. I was just home from another errand, while I had been driving I was praying four someone to run a red light. Or maybe I could "accidentally" loose control of my car. Life sucks at the moment, as you can tell. But this story reminded me of the sin of taking ones life. That I have much to live for. Thank you!
