Revisited this one and had to take away a star for all the pages and pages and pages wasted inside the heads of the villains. This one was more 3.5 for me in the end. Had to mark it down just for the cheating. I really don't believe it needed to go there and hurt the story for me. And then the shower gave me an ewww factor. Sorta turned me off from the H/H from that point in how they both reacted to it. All was forgiven... I thought they couldn't cheat but there he was. This is the story of Malek and Gina. This was one of the more densely packed books of the series, with the introduction of new characters and new plot lines. I was immediately pulled into the story partially because I had liked the characters from earlier books and partially because the story was a little darker than usual. The characters are so compelling and real for me as I read that I cannot stop even when I should because I need to follow where they are going. Malek did not expect or want to ever find another mate after the death of Carmen centuries ago, but in walks Gina and he is immediately bonded to her. Gina was also mated once before and her mate Armand was a sadistic male who abused and broke her down so that she no longer fully trusts there are good males out there. The fates bring together these two lost and broken souls to heal each other, but first they have to get past all the baggage from their respective pasts. Gina has tried to stay away from Malek and Chicago but when she blows an assassination of Dacian vampires it becomes a matter of survival. She and Trevor are being hunted and she decides to head to Chicago to stop Micah from emailing her and hopefully throw off the Dacian's for a while. Bishop is still plotting even after losing his lab and best lab rat. The Dacian vampires decide to kill to birds with one stone since they are in Chicago and make a run on King Bain and the throne, and get Gina and Trevor. There are a lot of emotional moments while reading this book and while a lot center around Malek and Gina, there are other characters who bring on a big emotional feeling. I will say that I actually cried at a few points, which made my son uncomfortable, but I told him that this is what you want from a book. Something that makes you such a part of it that you cannot help but participate in whatever is happening. This can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend you start from the top and get here. Recommended to everyone! *The book contains explicit sexual content, sensitive subject matter, references to non-traditional lifestyles, and profanity.

An Assassin and A Warrior Just want to say the cover is amazing RotA Book #5 of the All the King’s Men series Wow this book was so worth the wait, however it would have been nice if it had come out sooner. Return of the Assassin is Gina and Malek’s story and what a story it turned out to be. Ms. Lynne did not hold back the punches with this one. Return of the Assassin is Gina and Malek’s story and what a story it turned out to be. Ms. Lynne did not hold back the punches with this one. I don’t want to give too much away but there are a few things that need to be said. Ever since Gina tried to kill and innocent as revenge for her brothers murder things started going downhill for her. Arrested and locked up in a cell at AKM headquarters she totally started coming unglued. Malek stayed with her for the entire two weeks she was imprisoned. Going as far as sleeping in her cell, which she took as keeping guard. Until one night he started talking to her while she was asleep so he thought. Gina heard every word he said up to and including he was mated to her. I won’t go into details here. First reaction of Gina was to not turn around and hell no she would never mate again. As soon as she was let free she ran and left Chicago with her best friend Trevor. Trevor started noticing Gina was not the same and was having panic attacks keeping her from doing her job. She and Trevor had a job to do in South Florida and were on their stake out when just before the go signal was given she started to have another panic attack. Trevor told her to abort/stand down but she tried to push through it and took the shot anyway, missing the target then fired again and missed the second shot alerting the targets to what was coming down. Trevor had to get himself and Gina out of there fast knowing the two Dacians would track them down. This story is action packed, and will have you holding your breath not even realizing it, pacing the floor, and literally stressing out. There was an entire chapter maybe a little longer where the way the scene played out I almost died I was shocked. There were so many twists to this read you felt as though you were on a roller coaster of emotions doing 4G’s. Between Malek going into total melt down self-destruct mode with the mating calling and him so desperately trying to ignore the fact Gina was his mate, not willing to let go and admit his first mate was dead. To Gina refusing to mate again because of the physical abuse she endured with her first mate which almost killed her and left her barren, but she killed him first and survived the ordeal to become an assassin. We get a glimpse at Brak who was also thought to be dead (Traces Twin) and Cynthia who watches over Brak. Brak plays a major unbelievable role in one of the critical chapters. Trace and Brak’s father Maddox who was thought dead was rescued and brought to AKM medical. Bishop and his brother Apostle make an appearance along with Bishop’s designer DNA. That was interesting. Grotek and Chane who held Brak prisoner to do their dirty work. I’ve probably given up way to much of the story but RotA pulls you in by the throat and doesn’t let go until the end. I was able to breathe easier at the end but still this was an unbelievable read. I give this 5* and I can’t wait for Bound Guardian Angel due out sometime in 2014. Wow way too long to wait. I’m hoping its Trace’s and Brak’s story.

This is Malek and Gina’s storyline and one with heartbreaking and painful pasts that each must accept and endure to get on with their lives. Malek’s first mate was murdered and he has had a difficult time overcoming the painful memories and thoughts about retribution and death-something broke inside Malek and he was floundering in despair. And no amount of booze or sex brought any relief including the thoughts of Gina Carano and the ‘who and what’ she was about. Gina was an enigma and Malek’s thoughts continued to return to the woman who would one day be his mate-but the overriding guilt of losing his first mate had placed Malek in a position where he pushed everyone and everything away including Gina. When male vampires go into their needing nothing can stop the rush of aggression and the need for sex and nothing was stopping Malek and his possessive instincts to protect the woman he both needed and despised. Gina’s painful past, history with the AKM and heartbreaking guilt fueled much of the character development and relationship between she and Malek. Malek’s character and personality bordered on sociopathic at times but in the end, he will realize that the only thing holding him back was the guilt and the memories of a life he could not save. The AKM needed Gina because without her, Malek would probably not survive. Donya Lynne continues to build on the cobalt addictions and Drek premise as the relationship and intensions between Bishop and Apostle become dark and more dangerous. There is a new bad boy in town and he is out to make the lives of the vampires at AKM a living h*ll. Donya also introduces the half-blood Dacians-a species that the AKM believed no longer existed-but to everyone’s surprise, the Dacians have returned just as powerful and aggressive as before. There is also a developing story with Kota and his history with both Sev and Gina makes for some interesting plot points. Return of the Assassin is another eye opening and fascinating addition to Donya’s All The King’s Men paranormal series. The relationship between Malek and Gina was both difficult and aggressive but in the end, Malek will fall hard for the woman he would call his mate. Donya has written a passionate storyline about two people who have loved and lost and who will one day love again. 1. Rise of the Fallen 2. Heart of the Warrior 3. Micah’s Calling 4. Donya Lynne has done it again with another amazing book to add to the 'All The Kings Men Series.' In this book Malek gets his story, having briefly met Gina, an Assassin in Rebel Obsession. While in Miami, Gina has a panic attack, although she's starting to wonder whether they having anything to do with her connection to Malek. Having botched a hit on two full blooded Dacian Vampires, who some think are extinct, she flees with her friend, Trevor, to Chicago because she has unfinished business with Malek. Unfortunately, the Dacian's are hot on their trail. Malek, is falling apart. He can't let go of his mate, Carmen, who died a very long time ago. He's in the middle of his mating call, but refusing to accept that he's mated to Gina because he feels he'll be betraying Carmen. His friend, comrade, boss, has been trying to get Gina back to Chicago because of how out of control he is. Malek uses whores - hard, but still doesn't get relief because he needs his mate. Gina. Donya Lynne always gets me hooked within the first page of her book and this one was no different. The chemistry between Gina and Malek was hot and damn frustrating!! There was a point in the book I was shouting - no! no! no! Malek do not do that!! and then OH MY GOD - you did!! But Gina really kicked ass - way to go!! When these two finally come together, I thought my kindle was going to explode. As usual the sex was off the scales hot, not as hot as Rebel Obsession, but close. The only problem I have with a Donya Lynn book is that as soon as I finish the latest one, I want the next. Each book has a HEA for the two main characters, but the stories or so good you just want to carry on reading. Which means I'm going to be re-reading this series soon. If you haven't read All The Kings Men, then I recommend this series 100%. The story lines is brilliant - hot men - hot sex - hot story - what more can you ask?

I was looking forward to this book and it did not disappoint. Gina and Malek both needed each other and I was so happy with their ending. I like the introduction also of a mystical weapon and two new kinds of vampires that are ancient but as of yet had not been mentioned. The world continues to build and this book split off to focus also on a couple side plots with Bishop and Apostle as well as Brak, Trace’s long lost brother. However Gina and Malek were the main focus of this book. I did figure out what would happen for some of the characters in this story but still there were plenty of surprises and this did not hurt the plot at all. What I did not like as much was some of the dialogue and back and forth bantering that was usually between the couples. At times it seemed a little long for me and made me want to jump ahead of it. Other than that I wouldn’t change anything about this book. All in all another great addition to the AKM series and I will continue to read this series as they come out. I can’t wait to read the next one as it looks like it will be Trace’s book. *I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.*

Ms. Donya Lynne, had me sitting up way into the night with this one. Once again, I am amazed at how well she blends multiple points of view, which gives her characters a deeper believability, and allows me to reconnect with not only the present book but also the past books I enjoyed so much. There were times I wanted to smack Malek upside the head, only to later want to cuddle him like a wounded child. I fell in love with Gina and wanted to cheer her on. It had been quite sometime since I had read the first books in this series and I had to reread them because I had forgotten much of the backstory on the characters involved. I had forgotten what an awesome writer Donya Lynne is. If you like the Black Dagger Brotherhood series you will like All the Kings Men, similar but definitely different.

If you don't already know the ending...then it's best you pick up this book itself! HEROINE just can't seem to make up her mind about all this to be honest. She's been mated to an abusive Dacian vampire and suffered immensely for it until she killed him. Now, she's an assassin for hire and when she botched up an assassination against another Dacian, they are out for her head & blood. Unfortunately for her, one of the Dacians happen to be her ex-mate's uncle. Thus, she's tucking tail and running back to where Malek is but both refuse to bond. Sigh...drama drama drama. OVERALL it was quite anti-climatic. The hero left much to be desirable with his impossible attitude towards the heroine. As much as his devotion to his dead mate is commendable, it was fucking annoying when he kept pushing Gina away and the making up for the pain didn't even cover enough to make this a GREAT story.

Neither wants to want the other, but their souls have called out to each other as mates do and fighting what is between them may end up being the destruction of them both. Malek is an enforcer for AKM or All the King’s Men but since he began to mate with Gina and deny it, he is basically a worthless bastard. He is giving Micah a run in the biggest asshole award currently. He hates that his body has begun to mate with Gina, he doesn’t want to finally admit that his first mate is gone and has been for hundreds of years. He is slowly losing his mind to the “suffering” and yet he continues to fight it like the stubborn ass male he is. I understand his pain and in the previous books Malek was one of my favorites because of how his personality was, but holy shit was he a complete douchebag to begin with in this one. He needed his eyes opened up and his ass kicked, not only by Gina but everyone else too. Gina made a huge mistake in the past, she let her emotions overrule her thoughts and she almost did something that she would never be able to forgive herself from. Since she left Chicago, she hasn’t been the same, having panic attacks and just overall suffering. She thinks that it is because Malek started to mate with her and that just won’t happen, she won’t ever allow it again. Her first mate abused her so severely that she wants nothing to do with having a mate ever again, even if that mate was would Malek. When she return to face Malek she can’t believe what a total ass he is being to her. When he does the unthinkable to a mate, I loved how she kicked ass. She needed to kick his ass too. These two are both broken in their own ways, severely broken. Both need each other to heal and once they opened their eyes and hearts they not only healed each other but the bond that they have is stronger than I ever thought it would be considering their start. These two are perfect for each other. Return of the Assassin is the 5th book in the All The King’s Men series. I read the previous 4 books in preparation to reading this one and I am officially hooked. This series reminds me of two of my favorites, The Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward and the Midnight Breed series by Lara Adrian. I think fans of both of these series will love the All The King’s Men series as well because these male vampires are hot, sexy and alpha all the way. I am looking forward to the rest of the books in this series to be released so that I can get more of these sexy vampires.

Read on with confidence! *** The characters in this series are always standouts. Each one is unique and not at all cookie-cutter. While there are some, like Micah, who play a fairly prominent role in every book (I think of him as the AKM shepherd), it's unusual for me to like and identify with EVERY featured couple across a book series. The first time Malek and Gina are reunited in RotA is a powerful scene and exquisitely written. You can practically feel his aggression and possessive instincts vibrating off the pages, and the shock and bewilderment of their unwitting audience is priceless. The writing is so passionate it gifts the scene with a striking, visceral feel. RotA bristles with emotional intensity and charms with its soul-deep love story. The highs are steamy as hell, and almost manic, while the lows are unbearably intimate and earth-shattering. There are so many memorable scenes that tugged at my heart strings, but one in particular stood out as exceptionally moving. I won't tell you what it is because I don't want to spoil it, but I must have read it five times. The closeness and boundless, selfless friendship and loyalty Ms. Lynne pulls from her characters is just exquisite, and one of the reasons this series is so increasingly habit forming. Another scene is brutally satisfying in its relentless revenge, even for someone as squeamish as I am about bodily mutilation, especially since it's the good guys who get to dish it out and for good reason. If you have not yet started this series, you simply must! Donya Lynne is a ruthless storyteller, in the best possible way, and the AKM books just keep getting better. Even if you know how events will ultimately end up (this is PNR, folks, a happily-ever-after ending ain't exactly a state secret), the story takes you on such a complex, well-crafted emotional ride, you can dive into the story and completely immerse yourself in the deep friendships, loyalty and camaraderie, the passion and despair that are so intimately penned. If you've been waiting for the next Black Dagger Brotherhood, this is it, but with a story arc and featured characters that stand on their own merit and writing that is as complicated and talented as J.R. Ward's without the abrasive, almost gangster style. I dare you to read Return of the Assassin and remain completely unmoved by the events in this book. And to think, this series has so much potential awesome left to explore! New to the series? Start with Rise of the Fallen and meet the infamous and incorrigible Micah. *Grin*

J's Review I will admit that I am a paranormal snob. I’m very picky about who I read. Donya Lynne won me over with Rise of the Fallen the moment I read it I knew I had to have them all and I would be a lifelong fan of hers. She goes right up there with my fave paranormal authors. The thing that drew me into Donya’s writing is that it is so real. She hits on real life issues and addresses them absolutely beautifully. The thing that drew me into Donya’s writing is that it is so real. She hits on real life issues and addresses them absolutely beautifully. Even though we are in a vampire world, her vampires are completely different than any one else’s. Her books are original and exceptional. Return of the Assassin is no different. The issue here is grieving, acceptance, and panic attacks as well as other things. Donya did a fantastic job of describing these things. Malek is centuries old and has grieved his first mate since the day he lost her. He vowed to never replace Carmen and taint the memory of her with a new mate, therefore he never touched a woman, until fate stepped in and threw a new mate right in front of him. He was determined to fight it. He was convinced Carmen was still alive. His needs got the best of it and after centuries of celibacy he knew he had to do something. But he dare not touch Gina. Gina refused to ever take another mate after the brutal abuse she suffered from her first one. Gina also held a lot of guilt for something she had done in the recent past, almost killing an innocent man. She was so grief stricken and looking only for revenge that she couldn’t see the truth. This event is what lead her to meet Malek. She thought he was like every other male and dared not to mate with him out of fear of how things would turn out. But when she realizes that her panic attacks are really mating sickness she’s determined to give Malek a chance. Well, that is until he pissed her off and that whole event made me want to smack him, but it opened his eyes to what was really right there in front of him. Of course we all know it can never be sunshine and rainbows and yes Donya brought me to tears more than once. But in the end will all the heartache and turmoil be worth it. Can Malek and Gina find their forever or will their enemies rip it away from them. 5 HUMONGOUS FANTASTIC STARS!!!

In this fifth book of the series, we see Gina in Florida, on the job as usual. What happened to her after she left Malek and the others? Where has she been? What kind of job is she on? Who is with her on the job? How does she know this person? What happens to Gina when she sees what kind of Vampire she is hired to take care of? What memories does that bring up for her? What happens to her physically? So, back in Cast, and what he is going through? The mental arguing with himself is funny. What is Malek doing in trying to wipe Gina from his memory? What plans do Bishop and Apostle have in the works? It blew me away to find out 'who' is behind the Cobalt dealing ultimately. What is one of the major problems Malek is having where Gina is concerned? Will Malek ever listen to the voice inside his head, about his first mate and about Gina? Will Maddox ever see Brak and Trace again? Will Trace ever be reunited with his twin? What happens when Brak invades Trace's mind after finding him in the king's dungeon? What does he find out and how does it change the game that is being played? What about the Dacian vampires? What happens with them? What happens when Malek sees Gina again is nothing short of a riot. I laughed so much. Be prepared to have some tissues on hand in this one. When the Dacians make it to Chicago and meet up with Lorena, things take a very drastic turn. What happens when Trace's twin Brak makes it to AKM? You may just cheer like I did. This book does actually end with an HEA. It certainly is touch and go. RECEIVED THIS BOOK AS A GIFT FOR A FAIR/HONEST REVIEW and REVIEWER FOR Bloggin' With M.Brennan.

But being stuck in the past for so long he's not sure he wants to allow the truth to sink in and set him free. Gina nearly made a fatal mistake when she came to Chicago to avenge to brother, but what she found there could break her, if she hadn't already been broken in the worst possible way. Her past is more horrible than most can imagine, and she thought she had dealt with it until Malek came along. Can these two broken souls come together and heal each other or will their pasts forever taint them? Along with the story of Gina and Malek we also get sucked into the world of the AKM even more. Seeing characters we've already come to love in books past as well as new characters whom have made quite a splash and will no doubt make future books even more interesting. Return of the Assassin was jam packed with action and intrigue and another great story of the power love can have between to people. I have enjoyed each AKM book more and more and will anxiously await the next installment in this series. This time around though I do suggest keeping a few tissues at the ready, the emotional impact from this one will do a number on ya!!

I love Donya Lynne because she always provides multiple POVs from different characters in her books, not just one. I enjoy reading from the 'bad guy/girl' POV as well as the hero and heroine. Her AKM series is such a fantastic hit because her vampires are different from the normal vampire stories you usually get. They are not invincible, they hurt, suffer, bleed, love, eat, sleep, fight etc. This book had all of that, all of the characters from previous books were seen throughout the book, plus I love Donya Lynne because she always provides multiple POVs from different characters in her books, not just one. Malek's character was very annoying at first, his behavior was boorish and disgusting, and his inner monologues were so repetitive, they just got on my nerves. Its usually the female lead that gets on my nerves but this time around it was the male lead. I've always liked Gina's character, a bad ass assassin, who had a lot of traumatic crap happen to her but she bounced back and man what a freaking come back! I can't wait for Trace's book and finally see him reunited with his father and brother!

A fantastic addition to the series, leaving me wanting more... like now!
