"Another one of Slim's passions is books. He is a voracious reader and is always carrying books with him in the trunk of his car. He knows every title of the nearly four hundred books crowding the bookshelf in his office." (José Martínez, Carlos Slim: The Richest Man in the World, Page 142) Although not written by the billionaire, Carlos Slim, himself. It gives you some insight into the Mexican billionaire and there are many direct quotes and letters and articles within the book written by Carlos "Another one of Slim's passions is books. Most of his wealth came from his purchase of the telecommunications company now named Telemex. He currently holds a monopoly on telecommunications in Mexico and Latin America. There seems to be some corruption associated with the sale and purchase of this telecommunications company by the government of Mexico. The president whom Carlos Slim knew very well decided he would privatize this company for the betterment of the Mexican people. I don't think this was the case, I think it was for the betterment of his pocketbook and the betterment of Slim's pocketbook who probably convinced him to put this asset up for sale. I am speculating, but that is what my heart tells me. It is unfortunate, as many Mexician people suffer from poverty while this man has a net worth of 71 billion or more all because there is not enough checks and balances within the then government of Mexico. I could be wrong, but there seems to be some cover up trying to be made in this book. It paints a picture of Carlos Slim as a saint. My heart tells me that he is not a saint, but very greedy. This book is worth the read if you want to know more about this billionaire, but beware this man is worshipped as some type of God and I don't think honour is due him for ripping off the Mexician people of their assets. Also, there are grammatical errors and page disorganization that the author, publisher and editors failed to catch. That is my review like it or not.

It was just an 'okay' biography on Carlos Slim. I thought their was a bit too much 'adulation' and 'admiration' for him and that it too objective. I liked parts of the book, especially how their family emigrated to Mexico from Lebanon and how they were able to succeed and his family life. The business aspect of the book about his companies were a bit dry and boring. It was just an 'okay' biography on Carlos Slim.
