This text book makes poetry not only understandable but relatable to the everyday person. The exercises throughout also test your knowledge of the chapter before and allow you to create poetry and stories all your own. This is an excellent text for beginning poets and writers.

This is the best text book I have found for teaching high school poetry.

Good, maybe, if you were trying to learn about poetry but you didn't know what a poem was. Or maybe a good book for teaching elementary school children about poetry. Not, however, what I had in mind. This approach to poetry is what I use in guiding my teaching. I like the order of elements, from the question "what does a poem look like" through the pieces of poetry, and then to the fancier "craft moves" and techniques.
