They were poor, so sisters were not interested in a Christmas. However, I think we can enjoy that day without presents and luxurious meals. At the end of this book, this family enjoyed that day by themselves. Meeting someone such as friends and family and talking with them are made me happy without presents. I think these are the best presents for everyone.

I'm glad I finally know this classic! It was a way shorter version, but it was sweet and uplifting just the same. I'm glad I finally know this classic! It was a way shorter version, but it was sweet and uplifting just the same.

And then, a week later, I realized that what I borrowed was only part of story and was actually a text adaptation. Hence my disappointment at the lack of story depth and length. The actual book, according to Wikipedia, consists of 759 pages. I have now reserved this legit version of the book from the library. But in the meantime, here is my short review of this version of the book. Little Women stars The March sisters, Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy. The girls live with their mother, while their father works out of town. They get by, but they are by no means living a life of luxury. They can’t afford any gifts for Christmas, but the girls make a pact to save up a little bit of money and spend it on gifts for their mother, who does so much for them. Yada, yada, yada… they befriend the boy next door, whose family is very well off. Their father falls ill, and their mother goes to care for him. The boy’s tutor helps take care of the girls and makes sure they are safe. Some romance takes place, which is interesting for two of the four girls. But the story lacks so much detail, you could hardly call it a romance. I’m very much looking forward to reading the actual book. I would not recommend this adapted version of the story (written by a man, no less).

Tried this as an Audio book. First one yet. Really liked listening to an audio book. It’s great to listen to a book while doing something else. The story wasn’t bad, but it had a lot of flaws for me to give it a higher rating. Will be reading the original later on.

Jo March is one of my favorite literary heroines.. which in turn, leads me to believe that Louisa May Alcott and I would have been friends, had we been born in the same generation:) Or at least someone I would have found amusing. If you've seen the movie or read the book as a child, I highly suggest reading it again as an adult and take into consideration its timing in history and the relationship between the U.S. and England at this time. I really appreciate this book. I already knew the history of "Little Women" in Italian but I wanted to read it in English to understand the differences, and I'm satisfied. It is a quite reading, rich of new words that I learned, descriptive parts and dialogs (that helps you to understand the personalities of the sisters) and even if this book belongs to the "Stage 4" the language is not so difficult, but it is very understandable. I recommend it. I really appreciate this book. I already knew the history of "Little Women" in Italian but I wanted to read it in English to understand the differences, and I'm satisfied. Adapting novels this way must not be legal, it make no sense to me to press 449 pages novel into 74 pages! not for such a novel.. poor glossary and ugly illustrations. I definitely wish to read the full original series.
