Mark Twain left home at 13 and was a washout in most every job he held. He lost millions of dollars he never actually had during the gold and silver rush through pure youthful idiocy. While I am only 13% through reading these tremendous stories of journey and event, I am enthralled with the history, humor and humility of this intriguing individual's travels and travails. His foibles are embellished in a perfect comedic light. His successes are humbly meted out. The scenery of late 1800’s North A Mark Twain left home at 13 and was a washout in most every job he held. The scenery of late 1800’s North America is illustrated first person through the eyes of a young adult who grew up on the east coast and ventured to Nevada before it was a state, California when it was still wild (Twain was present during the “great” earthquake in San Francisco) and Virginia when every able man was drawn to the lure of being a silver mine tycoon and the true worth of a man was counted by how many men he had killed, no matter what his station in society (except for the saloon keeper, who was at the top of the pecking order). Twain traveled the world and wrote journals, so my voyage has barely begun, but I am hooked. Some of my favorite writer’s newest have been put on hold because I cannot get enough of this man’s stories. While an avid admirer of his fiction, Twain’s nonfiction has such a pulI, I feel I am bewitched. **I got this book free on kindle. A steal.
