Great book on Men's style. I actually bought the book because of all the great photos inside. Many wonderful photos of classic film stars. They did not disappoint. Worth it just for the photos inside. The book has many examples of Men's clothing. The book focuses on one item at a time and there are examples on how to put a great look together. The book gives the history on each item. The history is very interesting. A few of the items this book covers are: The Pea Coat, The Trench Coat, Bomber Ja Great book on Men's style. 3.5 stars, maybe. What's important to know about the book is that "Icons" refers to clothing items like classic jackets, the suit, watches,..etc. ant not to celebrities who were/are icons of style. A nice coffee table book. It gets boring at times but mostly nice to read about the history of the clothing items we all use today. For example: the flap on that jackets has its origin from the military who added it to protect the soldiers from the kicks of their rifles! cool, right!? All in all, alright 3.5 stars, maybe. Ah the fashions of men's yesteryear. Warren Beatty, James Dean, Gregory Peck, Elvis and even David Bowie are featured in this book, but not for what you may think. How cinema and music changed fashion for men is really not something I considered deeply until uncovering these pages. Handsome men and a good mix of garments make this a great peek into icon's and the clothes that framed them. Great visual candy. Ah the fashions of men's yesteryear. This was misleading. I thought I would be reading about actual human icons, but it turns out that all this book is, is a glorified catalogue of menswear types. They're organised into categories (e.g. outerwear, shoes, pants, etc) and in each category you get individual garment types (e.g. bomber jacket, trench coat, khakis, bermudas, brogues, loafers, etc). A brief (boring) history is given of each garment type. Some prominent garment types (which I would definitely consider "icons") were not fe This was misleading. The book is very interesting. It show you 7 important things in a gentleman and the evolution across the time (shoes, accesories, shirts, etc). That book gave me more information about mens style and story about clothing brands.

This book isn't about the trendy clothes you see on fashion runways, but the enduring staples of men's style. Great photography, fun anecdotes, and interesting tidbits of history. Recommended for anyone trying to make their wardrobe classic, timeless, and having some staying power. I got a kick out of flipping through this and seeing all the items I've had in my watch lists and wish lists. Also, as you get older I feel like you tend towards a lot of these items naturally. As much for there classic style as for the durability. This book will also pique your interests in further reading.
